My mom wants a new lap top. All I know is she wants to have word and office on it. And she wants it to play movies. She isnt going to play games so what would you suggest?

So I just got a new laptop, a Sony Vaio, if anyone is interested, and I need some anti-virus software. I know there are some great free ones out there, I just don't know what they are. My mom wants me to install Norton (Ugh...) but I'm not gonna cause in my past experiences, it slows down my PC and it's not all that great. SO, what are some good anti-virus programs?

Dragon Age Origins - Ultimate Edition on my PC will lock up after about an hour of gameplay and windows will alert that the program has stopped working and needs to close. I have tried to find and answer on google, but not much has helped me. Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening? Not a huge issue, but kind of annoying.

I just ordered a new pc and I thought it was a damn good deal, but some of my friends are trying to tell me they could build a better one for less. I got this for around $680 delivered after my discount. I looked through fry's and newegg trying to get the best deal and found I couldn't even buy the parts this comes with for that price. Please let me know what you think.

I was wondering for us phone posters, is it possible to get Tapatalk to work on the site? How much does it cost if it cost to be installed? Would be a great feature.

How many of you guys Dual Boot, of course in computers. I've just installed Ubuntu 10.4 (I believe thats the newest version) on my gameroom pc and old laptop that has broken hinges. I'm currently installing it on this laptop only since it's something I want to learn more about and also have just incase Windows goes crazy. FUN FACT: On my old laptop, with Windows installed, sound NEVER once came out of the laptop once I installed Linux/Ubuntu instantly had sound. Now, I cannot fix the hinges on the laptop nor do I care to but that's still pretty awesome.

If you buy dlc on one account can other accounts on the same system use the dlc too?

Ok, so my problem is I'm on HDMI with my Xbox. When I'm on the dashboard, streaming videos/music, doing pretty much anything, the audio is perfectly fine. But as soon as I put in a DVD to watch a movie, the audio cuts out. Does anyone have any clue as to why that may be? I have an Xbox 360 S if that helps at all.

i bought an hp wireless elite keyboard and mouse. they work off the same dongle. i installe the drivers, etc...but the keyboard works and the mouse doesn't. hp suppport tells me they can't find the part info and can't elp me. any ideas? every other mouse i hook to it works great.

OK, I've been trying to get the sound from my TV to my receiver through a digital optical out cable. So far unsuccessful. The TV is a SONY Bravia KDL-52EX700 and the receiver is a Pioneer VSX-817. If anyone can help me it would be awesome.

I have a problem. Something came up on my screen a couple of days ago, saying there was a device found on my network called PC-LENNY, and asked if I wanted to share files with this device. I accidentally pressed yes, but didn't think anything of it. Turns out my upload speed has increased and it's kicking me off of Live every so often. How can I change stop this from happening? I think this "Lenny" guy is downloading files from my computer. Please help!

I have made up my mind. Within the next month or two I would like to build myself a new PC. While I have a pretty good knowledge about PCs, I am not 100% sure how to go about finding all the parts and not missing any. I want this PC to be a medium-high end gaming PC that will be able to run anything on at least medium and last for several years without major upgrades. Money is not a huge issue but I would prefer to be between $800-$1200, but am willing to spend up to $1500. Hey, so I've been having some issues with my laptop overheating and crashing, at times I'll have AIM, itunes, firefox, and word open so I've lost data in the past. So i brought it into Staples for a Free Pc tune up. After 1 and half hours of waiting, they said my software was fine, no viruses, and they dusted out my laptop fan. They said though that my laptop's fan doesn't shut off basically and to find out what was wrong would take a $70 diagnostic test. I'm a little tight on cash so I figured why not ask the computer experts here . Anyone have any ideas?
