Hey, so I've been having some issues with my laptop overheating and crashing, at times I'll have AIM, itunes, firefox, and word open so I've lost data in the past. So i brought it into Staples for a Free Pc tune up. After 1 and half hours of waiting, they said my software was fine, no viruses, and they dusted out my laptop fan. They said though that my laptop's fan doesn't shut off basically and to find out what was wrong would take a $70 diagnostic test. I'm a little tight on cash so I figured why not ask the computer experts here . Anyone have any ideas?

So today when I got back from school my internet wasn't working. My desktop said it was connected to the network but not the internet. I tried powercycling the modem/router, running Windows troubleshooting, rebooting both PCs, and using the Shaw (My ISP) support download. None of them worked. So when I got back from work it still wasn't working and I decided to phone Shaw support. I sat on hold for nearly two hours before someone came on, told me to plug the modem directly into the computer, and once she verified I had internet access told me it was not Shaw's problem and I need to phone Lynksis (who makes my router). So I phone Lynksis, get connected to a person as soon …

Anybody here ever have an luck with recovering files from an external harddrive? I have an older Lacie 500gb that I believe is hooched (turns on but doesn't load to the desktop, doesn't recognize it in the system preferences either). I know there are several levels and types of data recovery but I'm trying to avoid taking it into Tekserve in Manhattan and paying for them to do it, since that'll be expensive. If anyone here can offer some suggestions that would be great. Thanks guys.

So I have an HP 9340f. It has an Nvidia 9500GS vid card (crap card, but it's a "media" card). On the front of my case it was inputs for composite video in (Yellow video, R/W audio). Can I plug my 360 into these ports and view it on my PC? What software would I need? I've tried googling but I'm stumped.

  10. Topic says it all. Coy is going to buy me a new video card for my birthday (GAH!!! I'LL BE THIRTY!!! ) I don't know what motherboard I have, so I'll have to check it out when I get home tonight. My quandry is that I need a new card but don't know what will work with my system. I get confused when it comes to what is going to be compatible with the MoBo. I don't know the difference between PCIe 2.0 and 2.1. Right now, all I know is that I have some form of a GeForce9500 (which is a complete steaming soup of diarrhea). I'm looking to spend around $150 so I think I'm looking at either a ATI 5770 or maybe an NVIDIA card of some sort (I've always had NVIDIA cards i…

Initially it was attached to the mouse so wherever i drag my mouse the background followed, super weird. Now to make this clear... this is not deciding what monitor windows starts on, but what monitor shows bios settings and all the other text that shows up before the operating system starts. The problem is I have a TV hooked up via VGA and a monitor hooked up via DVI. The computer always starts on the TV then switches over to the monitor. Is there any way that I can get the computer to start up on the monitor instead of the tv. My fear is nothing can be changed since the computer is just outputting to what display it detects first instead of my preference. I'm just afraid since the driver doesn't probably load until the OS starts. So is there anything I can do to change…

I have windows vista and windows 7 on the same computer but I never use vista anymore for obvious reasons. I have them set up as a dual boot and after a few google searches I have seen many ways of doing it with mixed success. My question is if there is a simple way of going about this without loosing any data on windows 7 and totally removing the vista partition so I can get all my hard drive space back.

Alright, I've been trying for days now to get my 360 connected through the wifi here on post. It's supposedly possible to connect to XBL through it but I've had no luck so if anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated. Tryed connecting with automatic settings, no dice. Then did it manually and set the IP and everything to match my laptop thinking that might work (disconnected my laptop of course) and still nothing. So, if anyone has any ideas, it would be awesome.

So my Xbox has been broken now for over a year. The one I've been playing on is my room mates so now that the semester is ending and I want to be playing the Hal;o Reach Beta, I've realized buying a new console all together is a better route then paying another $100 to get my old one fixed only to have it bust just a little over a year when the 1 year warranty expires. In since I'm switching majors now I'm going to be selling all my school books and should have enough to buy a new one. This is the one deal I'm currently looking at... Xbox 360 I'm looking at. Is this probably the best thing to go with? I've been wanting to upgrade my HD from my original 20 GB one and it co…

  25. So I have a CD/DVD drive on my new laptop, that works like the drive on a PS3. There is no door to lay down the disk on. It's fed in. Problem: My new PC wireless adapter for 360 controllers, came with a tiny disk with the drivers on it. My laptop refuses to accept this CD. What can I do? I searched for drivers online, and I also searched for tiny fucking CD not working with automatically fed CD drives. Came up with zilcho each time.
