General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

  1. I haven't played either of the games, but what I want to ask is if I should play through the first one before I play the second? I'm thinking about buying one of them today but didn't know if I should just skip the first one and buy the second which I heard was a little better than the first. I'm also going to maybe pick up Singularity at Kmart today for $34.99, and also a copy of the new Dragon Quest for the Nintendo DS which just came out.

  2. http://forums.xbox.com/35629778/ShowPost.aspx I'm sorry, but this is so much WIN that it's not even funny. MANY more games should be like this in my honest opinion.

Talk about your qwik turnaround. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced this morning that Netflix will not be splitting into two separate services as planned. The news comes less than a month after the company's stock went into freefall following its announced split into disc-based and streaming entities named Qwikster and Netflix, respectively. "It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVD," Hasting wrote on the company's official blog this morning. "This means no change: one website, one account, one password... in other words, no Qwikster." Read the rest in …

Who's that guy in the blue shirt? Yep, I'm learning Shou Shu Kung Fu at the Sheng Chi Center in Valley Springs. They didn't have the full gis in yet, but this was my first day. All of the lessons are shown online. For self defense, exercise, and the sheer fun of learning it. I like it so far. Two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus a cardio/tai chi/yoga thing on Wednesdays.

  5. Remember the contest prize that Kevin won last year? You know what I'm talking about. That 5l pound behemoth of a gummy bear that AudaciousKevin consumed over a period of MONTHS? He even made an awesome animated GIF out of it (don't know where it went, but it's hella funny). Well, from the same makers of that disgusting creation of sugary evilness comes.... THE BIGGEST GUMMY WORM IN THE WORLD! Contest prize? If you won it you would HAVE to eat it and document it online for us like Kevin did. LoL

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2010-08/27/and-vinyly "Music lovers can now be immortalised when they die by having their ashes baked into vinyl records to leave behind for loved ones. A UK company called And Vinyly is offering people the chance to press their ashes in a vinyl recording of their own voice, their favourite tunes or their last will and testament. Minimalist audiophiles might want to go for the simple option of having no tunes or voiceover, and simply pressing the ashes into the vinyl to result in pops and crackles." So, Gamercide, which album would you want your ashes pressed into?

  12.

In a rather bold statement by Sony about the successor to their handheld device, the PSP, Sony claims that the PSP2 “is as powerful as the PS3″. In a report by MCV, Sony dropped details on the PSP2 as “having HD screen with twin control sticks in the familiar brick form factor” and MCV is claiming that “there is potential for a phone to be included”. More details will be coming on January 27, as Sony prepares an announcement about the handheld for GDC. A mini handheld portable version of the PS3 would be great, but claims and facts are two separate things. Let’s see what the future holds Sony before jumping to conclusions.
via MCV <br…

  13. Sony who had previously apologized to users for the Playstation Network and Sony Online Entertainment security breach is now playing the blame game and has turned their attention once again to the infamous “hacktivist” group, Anonymous. Yesterday, Sony called out Anonymous and said that they are to blame for the reason that the security breach happened, because Son’y defenses were down while dealing with previous attacks from Anonymous. Anonymous fired back at Sony in a press release for Congress stating that they had nothing to do with the credit card theft. “While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our ‘leadership’ does not condone credit card theft, We ar…

  14. It recently came to my attention that Sony recently shut down Psygnosis studios (which was currently known as Sony Liverpool). This REALLY gives me a huge case of teh sads. So many games from my past (many of which a bunch of you young-ins have probably never even heard of) came out of this place. They had been making games for almost thirty years now. They were also responsible for creating one of the HARDEST games I've ever played. Shadow of the Beast. More specifically the NA Genesis version. (due to some sort of issues with the normal refresh rates of televisions between Europe and NA, the NA version ran almost 17% FASTER than normal. Combine that with NO cont…

No online authentication. No used game restrictions. I don't care how much it costs. I have a launch PS3 (which was ridiculous to begin with). I'm fucking sold. And Elder Scrolls Online + FFXV? Done deal. Game set and effing match Sony. Kudos to you. I wish you well (and my Vita is ready for the cross play!)

  18. Yesterday Sony blamed the “hacktivist” group Anonymous for the late April attack on the Playstation Network that has their online servers down for weeks and angered their users and sparked a congress wide investigation. Now that the investigation has begun the testimonial stage, can Sony point the finger at themselves after recent findings? Dr. Gene Spafford, a professor at Purdue Universtity and a security expert took to the stand yesterday and made claims that Sony knew that their servers were at risk for months, because of out of date Apache software. “….some news reports indicate that Sony was running software that was badly out of date, and had been warned about …

Electronics giant subpoenas Google, Twitter, PayPal, more for information that can be used to identify console's jailbreak contributors. Last month, Sony unleashed its legal department on George Hotz and the fail0verflow group, better known as the hacking consortium which released security keys allowing people to run unauthorized software on their consoles. Thus far, that investigation has largely centered upon Hotz, who has been ordered by the court to forfeit his computers, hard drives, and other storage material to Sony's legal team in the interest of discovery. The PS3 remains an open platform…for now. Now, Sony is seeking to expand its search for incriminating inform…

  20. In an attempt to win back their user’s trust who are outraged that their personal information was compromised during the recent Playstation Network security breach, Sony issued a public apology and is offering a “Welcome Back” program. “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience we have caused,” – Kazuo Hirai, Chief of Sony’s Video Game Unit This apology made by Hirai also accompanied by an admittance on their part that they did not do enough to ensure that their users personal data including credit card numbers and birthdays were protected and that they knew about the attacks on April 17, however according to Fox News he denied that Sony purposedly delayed the announcem…

  21. It's widely being reported around the net now a few key details regarding Sony's next console. The successor to the PS3, code named "Orbis", is supposedly going to be running on advanced AMD architecture and graphics cards rather than Sony's proprietary Cell chip. This is good news because it will allow much greater integration with the PC market and would be much easier to program for (a problem many developers complained about with Cell). With a planned release of sometime in 2013, there is some key things that have me a little unsettled. One of them I can deal with, and the other one sucks. I can deal with the proposed idea of Sony absolutely 100% not caring about PS…

  22. Last week, Sony detailed their “Welcome Back” package to PSN users who had their personal information stolen during the PSN attacks. While thus far this has included free PSN Plus and free downloads, they have upped the ante with a free year subscription to Debix, Inc’s AllClear ID Plus identity theft protection. Providing up to $1 million dollars in protection, this may help give some a piece of mind that even though their information was stolen, Sony is at least trying to ensure nefarious actions don’t take place with your information. The latest Sony blog gives these details of the program: Cyber monitoring and surveillance of the Internet to detect exposure of a…

  23. News from Sony is not good this morning after they admit to losing credit card numbers and detail the extent of how many accounts may have been effected by another revelation that the security breach extends beyond the Playstation Network and out to Sony Online Entertainment. Approximately 12,700 non-US credit and debit card information was stolen from outdated databases in 2007, along with 10,700 debit records in other countries such as Australia and Germany. “The information from the outdated database that may have been stolen includes approximately 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes), and about 10,700…

  24. Ok so maybe the Big Mac ads aren't coming soon, but it's still kind of making me a little angry knowing it could come to that. Even worse than that. Imagine you're playing a game. Let's say a racing game. You're in the zone, furiously trying to fight for first place. (All following pictures, except the doggy, taken from actual Sony patent application) You go to make a pass in between two other cars and suddenly it's like you're in the Matrix as the gameplay slows down to a crawl. What the ****? I've never seen this before. You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me......... No folks. I'm not kidding about any of this. Sony has patented what they are calling "Ad…
