General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

  1. Microsoft has to be grinning from ear to ear today with the announcement of their third quarter fiscal year earnings. Much thanks to their hands free device that just so happened to claim the title of the fastest selling consumer device in history, the Kinect, Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division grew to 60%. 2.7 million Xbox 360′s were sold, while the Kinect moved 2.4 million units. Altogether Microsoft is looking at $16.43 billion dollar profit from their third quarter fiscal year with earnings from the Microsoft brand. via Microsoft Investor Relations Tweet This Post View the full article

  2. Oh Look, Rep. Mike Rogers Wife Stands To Benefit Greatly From CISPA Passing... from the no-conflict,-no-interest deptIt would appear that Rep. Mike Rogers, the main person in Congress pushing for CISPA, has kept rather quiet about a very direct conflict of interest that calls into serious question the entire bill. It would appear that Rogers' wife stands to benefit quite a lot from the passage of CISPA, and has helped in the push to get the bill passed. It's somewhat amazing that no one has really covered this part of the story, but it highlights, yet again, the kind of activities by folks in Congress that make the public trust Congress less and less. It has seemed quite…

  4. NEW ORLEANS – Radar used in the stealth bomber and to find roadside bombs in Afghanistan and Iraq is moving into the sewers of Louisiana. The aim is finding empty spaces where dirt has seeped into sewers and water pipes before they spread to create huge buttholes or "stinkholes" that can collapse roadways and sidewalks above them. The radar was developed for the Defense Department. Researchers at Louisiana Tech University -- bankrolled by a Florida sewer inspection company -- adapted it to look for potential buttholes before they reach the surface. The system is to be tested in January in Slidell, where a butthole that popped up this fall alongside a major thoroughfare c…

  6.

If you’re like myself and millions of other legitimate users of Microsoft’s Xbox Live service, when you need Microsoft Points to purchase some new downloadable content you do the normal thing.

You buy them. With your own money. On your console or from a store.

Unfortunately for Microsoft however a small group of hackers have recently cracked the algorithm used to generate those familiar 25 character codes in order to obtain literally millions of dollars worth of space bucks in a less than legal fashion. A website devoted to hacking, modding, cheating and other irritating things most of us loathe threw up…

Kind of sucks since I've never played Fable before. Was looking forward to an innovative new IP. Instead we get the same old crap.

  9. Famous patent troll Uniloc is suing the creators of popular indie title Minecraft (PDF), which it claims infringes a patent it holds on copy protection software. But it might need to improve its own game, as the filing misspells its target as "Mindcraft", and developer Markus "Notch" Persson has already vowed not to give in. "Step 1: Wake up. Step 2: Check email. Step 3: See we're being sued for patent infringement. Step 4: Smile," Notch wrote at Twitter. "Unfortunately for them, they're suing us over a software patent. If needed, I will throw piles of money at making sure they don't get a cent." Filed in 2001 and awarded in 2005, Uniloc's patent describes a system for "p…

How Is Everyone ? I Think I May Have Made A Error/Mistake In My Console Selection. I Chose A PlayStation 4 Around The Time Of Black Friday. needless To Say It Was A Bad Decision. I Miss Everything About The Xbox . Especially Forza 6 And Forza Horizon 2 . "Sigh" I need to get back where I belong. On the track drifting with my buddies and leaving people viewing my taillights. Everything is bad about the ps4 . Don't get me wrong its a good exclusive gaming console but not worth 300 bucks. But this is my opinion. I only chose it because two of my family members had it and I haven't spoken to them in a bit. We jump on first thing they say is "You seem like a Xbox person" all …

  15. Source; Cnet.com After reading this article I have to agree with the opinions of the analysts. I've seen the smartphone and the tablet take a huge step forward as far as usability and transportability. It's much more prevalent in the ARMY now as well, with everyone in my company having a smartphone or tablet that they use for their daily operations. It used to be pen and paper they carried around. Now, whenever my platoon sergeant has some info to put out to the platoon, he pulls his iPhone out to read the notes he took during his meeting with the higher up staff. I find myself using my iPhone for many things as well, such as writing down maintenance notes or downloading …

Linkage Have you ever wondered what would happen if characters from your favorite games ever crossed paths with each other? The creative minds behind Beat Down Boogie have decided to provide us an answer to that very question. Hilarity, boobs, and plenty of action occur when Ghost from Modern Warfare 2 and Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series meet up. (I thought it was funny)

  18. Users from all across the board, Xbox 360/PS3/PC, are taking to Metacritic by storm to slam the most recent Call of Duty title to be released. Currently on Metacritic for the 360 it's averaging about a 2.5/10 from almost 1200 User Reviews. The biggest complaint is that they feel it's a complete re-hash with the same graphics engine. While I can agree with that sentiment on some levels, they did change a bunch of things including weapon unlocks, how killstreaks are achieved, and added a couple new game modes. Why all the rage? Games like Madden, Tiger Woods, FIFA, Basketball and Baseball games and other sports titles come on consistently and on an annual basis with ge…

  23. The Chinese media has reported on an extraordinary account of a mother bear saving her cub from a life of torture by strangling it and then killing itself. The bears were kept in a farm located in a remote area in the North-West of China. The bears on the farm had their gall bladders milked daily for 'bear bile,' which is used as a remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It was reported that the bears are kept in tiny cages known as 'crush cages', as the bears have no room to manoeuvre and are literally crushed. I downloaded Marathon a few months ago and loved it. So the achievements are odd numbers and totally have made my gamerscore funky. Unfortunately I can't play Marathon anymore and get the rest of the achievements, because it causes me to get motion sickness. Does anybody know of a game that has a random 4 point achievement or something like that so that I can get my gamerscore back to normal. It's irritating the fudge out of me!

  25. Reinforcing the fact that Chris Dodd really does not get what's happening, and showing just how disgustingly corrupt the MPAA relationship is with politicians, Chris Dodd went on Fox News to explicitly threaten politicians who accept MPAA campaign donations that they'd better pass Hollywood's favorite legislation... or else: "Those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake," This certainly follows what many people…
