General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

  1. Researchers at Cornell have designed, built and demonstrated the first "cloak" that hides events in time. The process relies on similar methods of distorting electromagnetic fields as invisibility cloaks, but it exploits a time-space duality in electromagnetic theory: diffraction and dispersion of light in space are mathematically equivalent. Scientists have used this theory to create a "time-lens [that] can, for example, magnify or compress in time." Keep reading, here. via - Gizmodo

This is srs business. I don't want to see this community cease to be nothing, and while I understand we all have busy lives etc etc, we need fresh blood. 90% of the people who come here don't get past the new users hello forums. etc blah blah whatever, this is about a grand idea I had while at work. This is an idea in process, so input is appreciated. I'd like to actually do this, and hopefully bring some life back to our community. Gamercide is going to host an UNO COMPETITION. Why uno? Because it's easy, and anyone can play. It's also a great social game, so we can get to know each other better. And it's a lot of fun. Some of you may remember our uno games in the past.…

How did they know?

Hey all! I'll be gone for a week (maybe 8 or 9 days) and am taking a MUCH NEEDED vacation. My parents own a house down in Florida so I'm going to be staying down there. I'm super excited. I think I'm going to go to Sea World (Disney is a RIPOFF it's so damn expensive now, and I have corporate discounts I can use on for Sea World tickets), and I'm thinking I may go check out this Sleuth's Mystery Dinner show also which sounds kind of cheesy and fun. That being said, I won't be around for my regular streaming hours so someone is going to have to take over for me on that Friday and following Monday. Not sure if I'll be back for that next Friday's stream either! Dam…

This is a poll for the gamer stereotypes article. The answers are not suppose to be about who you really are, but rather what do people think when they see you buy a game, etc... I'll keep this poll open throughout the week

It's huge. I'm exhautsed. Been working on this now for weeks. Place was a wreck when we first got here (not really a WRECK, but needed new blinds and definite steam cleaning of rugs and mopping, new bathroom stuff, etc), but it's all good so far. Everything is boxes. It's crazy, but it will work out. I had to hook up the PC to see what the speeds were and also hook up the 360 to keep my gaming streak going. (1097 days STRAIGHT. Damn, this was a feat to kep it going considering the move. LoL!) But yeah. It's going to be a lot of unboxing for awhile. Now I need to unhook the pc and move some stuff back so it's out of the way. On a side note, my download speed tripl…

  7. The new Resident Evil 6 is getting frigging SLAMMED in the reviews today. I don't mean "Oooo, it got an 8 so it must be bad" sort of slammed which is the norm for supposed AAA titles. I'm talking like ~69 average on Metacritic, with "popular" sites like Joystiq and such giving it a 50/100. Even Gamespot gave it a 4.5. Yeah, the game sucks, and I knew it was going to happen. Call me a purist for the series if you want, but back when I was "reviewing" games I absolutely destroyed Resident Evil 5 when I wrote it up. I hated almost everything about it, I loathed the direction the series was taking, and I gave it an equally shitty score to reflect that sentiment. For a gen…

  10. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/02/08/bulletstorm-worst-game-kids/?test=faces “If a younger kid experiences Bulletstorm's explicit language and violence, the damage could be significant,” Dr. Jerry Weichman, a clinical psychologist at the Hoag Neurosciences Institute in Southern California, told FoxNews.com.“Violent video games like Bulletstorm have the potential to send the message that violence and insults with sexual innuendos are the way to handle disputes and problems,” Weichman said. Carol Lieberman, a psychologist and book author, told FoxNews.com that sexual situations and acts in video games -- highlighted so well in Bulletstorm -- have led to real-world sexu…

  11. Earlier this week Comcast came under fire for possible net neutrality violations after it was revealed that streams of on-demand video that it delivers to subscribers via Xbox Live won’t count toward its monthly 250 GB bandwidth cap. Well, the way Comcast delivers that content hasn’t changed, but the language it uses to describe the delivery method has been updated, perhaps in an effort to draw less attention to the issue. For those who forgot, the pertinent part of the FAQ previously tried to distinguish its VOD streams from those of competing video services like Netflix and Hulu Plus, saying that its content on Xbox was “being delivered over our private IP network and n…

  12. Was reading Gizmodo this morning and came across some mighty interesting stuff. I'll try to summarize a bit, but you may want to check out the original article over here. Tracking cookies and URL requests are pretty common these days, but tracking an incredible amount of your personal medical history, status and other factors should be extremely concerning. It's come to light that embedded within Healthcare.gov are a large amount of tracking URLs and requests that are sending this information to sites like Doubleclick, Yahoo, Chartbeat, and even Twitter and Youtube!! (There is a chart in the original article showing a partial list of these external sites Health…

After reading the thread here about Limbo being offensive, I decided to write an article about games and what is considered offensive. So....your opinions are needed once again. Remember your gamertag will be attached to all comments. What makes a game offensive in your opinion? Do you have an example of a video game scene that you thought was offensive or borderline offensive? Or are people just too sensitive these days after all, it's just a game? Spanks

  22. Comcast is already one of the worst companies in America, and now it wants to become one of the most annoying. As a part of the industry’s new “six-strikes” anti-piracy system, Comcast will hijack suspected pirates’ web browsers with a persistent pop-pop notification, preventing them from accessing the Internet until they change their ways. (Comcast calls it a “mitigation measure.”) Comcast says the browser hijacking will only go into effect after customers fail to respond to multiple previous Copyright Alerts like the one to the right. This means that no one should be surprised when Comcast cuts them off. “If a consumer fails to respond to several Copyright Aler…

  23. Ok so maybe the Big Mac ads aren't coming soon, but it's still kind of making me a little angry knowing it could come to that. Even worse than that. Imagine you're playing a game. Let's say a racing game. You're in the zone, furiously trying to fight for first place. (All following pictures, except the doggy, taken from actual Sony patent application) You go to make a pass in between two other cars and suddenly it's like you're in the Matrix as the gameplay slows down to a crawl. What the ****? I've never seen this before. You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me......... No folks. I'm not kidding about any of this. Sony has patented what they are calling "Ad…
