This is pretty nifty. Scientists believe that the chance of this planet containing some kind of life is nearly 100%. Linky "The discovery of a 'Goldilocks' planet--it's not too hot, not too cold--is thrilling scientists who think the planet may have the right conditions to sustain life. Located in the 'Goldilocks' zone, the planet is about 120 trillion miles (20 light years) from Earth. That sounds far but scientists say that's actually 'right next door' considering the size of the universe. This discovery, the first of its kind, excites some researches who believe the chances of life on the 'Goldilocks' planet are nearly 100 percent. Find out more about this new disco…

  2. From CNN So... this is ******* huge. I think this is a really big breakthrough in the LHC and what they've been screwing around with over there. Anyone else catch this today?

  3. Researchers at the University of California Irvine have developed a material that is as strong as metal yet 100 times lighter than Styrofoam. The material is constructed from a micro-lattice of nickel phosphorous tubes that is 99.9% air. The tubes are hollow and have walls 1,000 times thinner than a human hair, yet they have the strength of metal with the added benefit of being ultra resistant to strain. 4. I understand the need to research virii, how they work, and how they can be stopped, but stuff like this just fucking scares me. I've seen enough movies, read books, and read REAL REPORTS of accidental contamination to think that anything like this could end well. A moratorium was put in place to halt all research on this new deadly strain of Avian Flu. There were too many questions and the possibility of an outbreak was real. We're talking about an airborne pathogen that literally could kill at least HALF THE WORLD'S POPULATION. That moratorium has been removed in a few countries just recently (EU, Canada, China and a few others) "I can't think of another pathogeni…

Fox News You might expect a cement-shoed mobster in the waters off New York -- but a sea monster? Local newspapers and blogs have been consumed with the news that a "sea monster" has washed up at the foot of the famed Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. The seven-foot long beast, dubbed the East River Monster, was found on the Manhattan side of the bridge on May 21. And was it ever ugly. "It had the scales of a fish, body of a serpent, head of a pit bull and was the size of a large alligator," wrote Maureen O'Connor, a blogger on the Gawker website. Theories ran the gamut from horse to alligator to Loch Ness beast -- or even a relative of the Montauk Monster. Marine biolo…

  10. This is just too good! This morning, Senator Dianne Feinstein finally got angry over the abusive practices of the intelligence community that she oversees as head of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Historically, of course, Feinstein has used her role of "oversight" to actually do everything possible to protect and defend the various intelligence organizations. However, as we've been discussing, Feinstein has wanted to declassify and publish an apparently devastating $40 million 6,300 page report detailing how the CIA's torture program was a complete disaster. The CIA has been fighting hard against this, and in the last few weeks, it came out that the CIA also spied o…

via Fox News "A Connecticut teen who asked a girl to prom by taping a message to the front of his high school has been barred from attending. Shelton High School senior James Tate and two friends posted 12-inch tall cardboard letters outside the school’s main entrance last Thursday night so students would see the message in the morning. The letters read: "Sonali Rodrigues, Will you go to the prom with me? HMU -Tate." HMU means hit me up, or call me. Rodrigues said yes. But Tate, 18, and his two friends have been given one-day in-house suspensions by the headmaster and barred from the prom. “I was telling her for the longest time that I was going to go with her, but, you k…

Mila Kunis was voted sexiest woman of the year. Who would you choose? I'm not talking all time or anything like that. Just someone this year who may slipped onto the radar or you just found to be incredibly sexy. For me I have to give it to.....Kate Upton. She's gorgeous, has a beautiful body and she totally blew off being called "fat" by some super skinny reporter who clearly has some body images issues because she is definitely not fat.

I miss your faces. Life has been hectic, and one of my roommates has turned surprisingly hostile. Thankfully, she's moving in just three weeks. My goal is to be as loud as possible on the nights she works. Muaha. But right now my sleep schedule has been all over the place so... BLEEHH. Should be back soon to normal.

A little bit of info about what went on during the giveaway. For starters, we didn't crash! Woohoo! Sorry about the formatting. I tried a dozen times to straighten it out, but it hates me. You can take a look at the CPU usage and Actual Memory below. The Cached Memory doesn't mean as much because of the active caching the site does to help performance, it stays about the same most times. However, you can see a spi9ke in cpu usage while the giveaway was going on. Doesn't seem like a lot, but it is for a web server. And obviously the spike in Memory Usage. PS Usage: CPU % Cach. Mem Act. Mem Total Mem. 013/01/05 16:21:13 0.11 301 MB 89 MB 390 MB 2013/01/05 16:42:08 0.10 …

  24. It’s Not A High-Speed Police Chase Until Deep Fryers Come Flying Out Of The Escape Vehicle [Consumerist] You might’ve think you’ve heard about an intense, high-speed police chase, but you’d be wrong. Or at least you thought you knew what intense was, before reading that one particular police showdown had deep fryers flying out the back of a suspect’s truck. Deep fryers! Flying! It’s too much excitement to bear on a Friday, but let’s forge ahead, shall we? KHOU.com has the story out of Houston, where four men were allegedly part of a team that burgled a kitchen supply store late Wednesday night. Perhaps there was a dire need for cutlery or a lot of fried chicken, bec…
