So I got some awesome news in the mail yesterday!!! I've finished paying off another student loan!! WOO HOO!! (you can skip this part) Okay here's a small back story .. Since I'm Canadian and wanted to go to school in the USA (New Jersey) my loan was split up over 3 different places. One was Royal Bank of Canada (RBC for my Canadian brethren), the other two were from the province of British Columbia, and one from the federal government. So I had 3 loan payments to make a month. It got kinda messy when I moved to the USA 7 or 8 years ago because we (me and the loan offices) had to figure out a way for me to make payments and have them accept it. Companies or government ar…

http://dreydbones.com/?p=436 In this game, you listen for someone to say 2 one-syllable words together in the same sentence. You then combine those 2 words and ask this person what it means, and they have to create an imaginative definition on the spot, and explain it as intellectually as they can, starting with “Historically speaking…” For example, when Mat explained this game to me, I told him I would steal it. He promptly asked me, “What’s a stealit, Drey?” To which I answered, “Well, historically speaking, Steal-Its were manufactured by Tiger Electronics as a follow-up to the popular Skip-It toys. Rather than a counter at the end, it contained a large plunger, intende…

In the ER I work in we screen almost everyone for HIV/AIDS. We have to because it's so common in the area. Anyhow, I was blow drying my hair (which of course for whatever reason led me to think about HIV/AIDS) and while Medicine is still making a ton of progress on the disease it still exists, it's still deadly and the only prevention is safe sex. Getting everyone to have safe sex is about as probable as living on the moon. \So I was thinking, one of the biggest problems with HIV is that a lot of peopel who have it, don't know it, and could be passing it around to unknowing sex partners. A lot of places offer free HIV testing but honestly, if you had no reason to suspec…

I'm in a sociology class this semester that's primary focus is HIV/AIDS and other modern plagues. The class is beyond fascinating, and so far has been a real eye opener. It's obviously, a very emotionally charged class as well. Today we had a very heated discussion about a topic my Professor brought up, I am going to ask the question of you all and see what you all think. If a person who is HIV/AIDS positive KNOWINGLY infects another person in CONSENSUAL sex (i.e they lied about their status) should they be prosecuted because of it? I'm curious to see if the general idea and response to this question is the same, or if it varies.

http://feeds.wired.com/~r/wired/index/~3/P3hGcp3kM0E/ A new holographic display can transmit three-dimensional movies from one location to another almost in real time. If Princess Leia had to send her “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope” message from Earth today, it would now be technologically possible.

*Scottie picks up computer mouse and begins to talk into it* "Hello computer." Remember in Star Trek IV (one of the crappier sequels in my mind), when they need material to re-fit a storage bay to contain the humpback whales? It was supposedly 1986, and they needed a material strong enough to hold that many gallons of water but it didn't quite exist yet? What was the magic material? TRANSPARENT ALUMINUM!!! Well it's been a pipedream for a long time now. We've kind of known how to create it for a little while but it was near impossible to sustain. From Wiki: To create transparent aluminium, more power than is used by an entire city had to be focused into a dot with …

Hola Family I missed you guys and I hope that all is well, and life is not being a B*** to all of you lol. As most of you guys know my son Tony was in a bad car crash and lost the use of both his legs and also lost his girlfriend in that crash. And at one point things didn't look good for Tony as I was told by his mother and we flew back to Italy to be with Tony. Doctors tell me that Tony will be able to get the use of his legs back, but it will take some time for this to happen. Tony is now out of the hospital and back home with his mother. He really wants to go back to his apartment but doctors tell him that he will be better off if he's is with someone that can be…

Home depot confirmed that they were hacked yesterday. 2 things on Home Depot's part that I find unacceptable for a business of their size: 1) The hack has evidence of going on since at least April 2) They were hit with the SAME malware that hit target earlier this year. Due to the amount of time this has been going on, it is estimated that this could possibly be a bigger impact by numbers than Target. We are talking a few weeks compared to several months. http://consumerist.com/2014/09/08/home-depot-confirms-data-breach/ http://consumerist.com/2014/09/08/report-home-depot-victim-of-same-malware-used-in-target-hack/

Granite's 7th birthday was on June 12th and with everything going on, Jason and I wanted his day to be really special so I baked him a Minecraft cake to go with the bday theme. He loves Minecraft. (If anybody is ever online and sees my gamertag playing Minecraft, it's not me, it's him, lol.) The white and red parts are fondant. I used chocolate icing on the bottom half and the cake itself is one layer milk chocolate and another layer of vanilla. Sorry the photo is a bit blurry, I had to take it with my tablet because my camera was charging.

In the United Kingdom, publicists didn’t get much bigger or more controversial than Max Clifford. Having built his career representing everyone from Frank Sinatra to Muhammad Ali, the quick-witted, silver-haired Clifford had become, as one journalist put it, “a master manipulator of the tabloid media.” Perhaps most notoriously, Clifford resurrected singer Freddie Starr’s concert tour in 1986 by planting the sensational headline “Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster” in the Sun. Like the rumor of Ozzy Osbourne biting off the head a bat, the story generated so much attention that it sold out Starr’s tour. The decision by the marketing team at BMG Interactive to hire such a powerful…

It's not just children who like to build towers with Lego - the internet is alive with discussion on how many Lego bricks, stacked one on top of the other, it would take to destroy the bottom brick. So what's the answer? There has been a burning debateon the social news website Reddit. It's a trivial question you might think, but one the Open University's engineering department has - at the request of the BBC's More or Less programme - fired up its labs to try to answer. "It's an exciting thing to do because it's an entirely new question and new questions are always interesting," says Dr Ian Johnston, an applied mathematician and lecturer in engineering. Looking on the in…

Is it this much? While it is a cool tattoo I don't think I would go that far for a Video Game. NBA Players Tattoo SALT LAKE CITY -- We all know Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko goes off the beat of his own drummer -- evident by his fun-loving personality and his latest long locks. Now AK-47 has taken it a step further. In fact, this is a giant leap. He got a tattoo that covers his entire back, from shoulder to shoulder. And mind you, this is his first tattoo. We're not talking about a basketball on his calf, a Jazz logo on his shoulder blade or a tribal band on his bicep; we're talking about a child-sized portrait of what is apparently AK's World of Warcraft character…
