General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/04/18/officials-helicopter-crashes-iraq/ Unfortunately it was our guys that went down. None of the pilots or crewcheifs were severely injured but the passengers got banged up pretty good and sadly, there was one fatality. Environmental conditions are the main cause for the crash. They came in to land and got dusted out and lost sight of the ground, landed crooked and rolled over. Just wanted to ask for support for the family of the soldier we lost. My prayers go out to him. They held the ramp ceremony last night and sent him home this morning. Hopefully he makes it without delay due to all the volcanic ash.

The House version of the Internet Blacklist Bill was released October 26, 2011, with no effort to fix problems that existed in the Senate version. A violation of the First Amendment, it is contrary to official positions of internet freedom and censorship. “Under the Internet Blacklist Bill -- S.968, formally called the PROTECT IP Act -- the Department of Justice would force search engines, browsers, and service providers to block users' access to websites that have been accused of copyright infringement -- without even giving them a day in court.” This bill could shut down YouTube, Twitter and many other social websites that bring together the Occupy movements across …

Linky A 22 year old who admitted he was molested as a child has been charged with 16 counts of possessing child pornography all of which was found on his Xbox 360. Officials say that 22 year old Timothy Hammerstone from Polk City, Florida lured boys ages 10-16 by using Facebook accounts where he claimed in one that he was 15 and said he was gay. He then told the boys if they would send him naked photos of themselves posing in various positions, he would in return give them 1600 MS points. The boys naked photos were stored on a flash drive on his Xbox 360. Hammerstone also told the boys that he was the founder of a video game group known as the Relentless Society of Brot…

  7. Ryan Davis passed away on July 3rd. He was 34. Obviously we’re all stunned over here. Ryan was a good friend to all of us. It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him. He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you. Many of you know that Ryan was recently married. In the face of this awfulness, many of us will at least always remember him as we last saw him: outra…

  12. It has emerged that Michigan State Police have been using a high-tech mobile forensics device that can extract information from over 3,000 models of mobile phone, potentially grabbing all media content from your iPhone in under two minutes. The CelleBrite UFED is a handheld device that Michigan officers have been using since August 2008 to copy information from mobile phones belonging to motorists stopped for minor traffic violations. The device can circumvent password restrictions and extract existing, hidden, and deleted phone data, including call history, text messages, contacts, images, and geotags. In short, it can copy everything on your smartphone in a matter of mi…

With your own money. On your console or from a store.

Unfortunately for Microsoft however a small group of hackers have recently cracked the algorithm used to generate those familiar 25 character codes in order to obtain literally millions of dollars worth of space bucks in a less than legal fashion. Post any good deals you see into this thread. Does not have to be gaming related. For example, you could purchase And get the wireless guitar, game for XB1 and the poopy headset. The headset would be a good backup should your regular one break. Always keep a spare.

  18. http://www.vcstar.co...g-homicides-at/ Mr. Barnes had his life taken from him apparently trying to come to the aid of someone during an argument between a man and a woman on the evening of January. A game artist, he has been active in the industry since 1996 and has worked with Activision, EA, Tiburon Studios and on properties such as Transformers and Kung Fu Panda. He is survived by a 17 year old daughter and 8 year old son. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

California scientists have found a way to see through another person's eyes. Researchers from UC Berkeley were able to reconstruct YouTube videos from viewers' brain activity -- a feat that might one day offer a glimpse into our dreams, memories and even fantasies. "This is a major leap toward reconstructing internal imagery," said Jack Gallant, professor of psychology and coauthor of a study published today in Current Biology. "We are opening a window into the movies in our minds." Read the rest in the link below http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/scientists-youtube-videos-mind/story?id=14573442

A major development out of Cupertino: Apple CEO Steve Jobs has stepped down, the board naming Tim Cook as his replacement. The company said "Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company." Steve himself published the following letter: I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee. As far as my successo…

  24. So on a night nearly 43 years ago, while Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier bludgeoned each other over 15 rounds in a televised title bout viewed by millions around the world, burglars took a lock pick and a crowbar and broke into a Federal Bureau of Investigation office in a suburb of Philadelphia, making off with nearly every document inside. They were never caught, and the stolen documents that they mailed anonymously to newspaper reporters were the first trickle of what would become a flood of revelations about extensive spying and dirty-tricks operations by the F.B.I. against dissident groups. The burglary in Media, Pa., on March 8, 1971, is a historical echo today, as…
