General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

Anyoneelse watching this? Every year it gets better in my opinion, lots of good stuff. Command and conquer generals 2 using frostbite 2 engine. The new naughty dawg game look looks like could be promising.

  2. Incinerated partial remains of at least 274 troops were reportedly dumped at landfill between 2004-08 by the largest military mortuary in the US. The Washington Post report was based on data from Dover Air Force Base, the main entry port for US war dead. The newspaper first broke the story last month, but it was not known how many remains were dumped at landfill. Families, who had agreed for the remains to be disposed of respectfully, were unaware of the practice. Pentagon officials did not authorise the procedure, which was reported by whistleblowers. Air Force officials, who have denied a cover-up, said last month they could not estimate the precise number of casualties…

Read some sad news today. Jerry Robinson, the original creator of Batman's most famous nemesis "The Joker", has passed away at the age of 89. An interesting story is over at io9 if you'd like to read it including a very cool original concept sketch from Mr. Robinson. http://io9.com/5866373/rip-jerry-robinson-creator-of-batmans-nemesis-the-joker

  4. In a case that’s sending a frightening message to the blogger community, a U.S. District Court judge ruled that a blogger must pay $2.5 million to an investment firm she wrote about — because she isn’t a real journalist. As reported by Seattle Weekly, Judge Marco A. Hernandez said Crystal Cox, who runs several blogs, wasn’t entitled to the protections afforded to journalists — specifically, Oregon’s media shield law for sources — because she wasn’t “affiliated with any newspaper, magazine, periodical, book, pamphlet, news service, wire service, news or feature syndicate, broadcast station or network, or cable television system.” The Obsidian Finance Group sued Cox in Janu…

  6. Scientists believe it may be possible to clone a woolly mammoth within five years after finding well-preserved bone marrow in a thigh bone recovered from permafrost soil in Siberia. Teams from Russia's Sakha Republic's mammoth museum and Japan's Kinki University will launch fully-fledged joint research next year aiming to recreate the giant mammal, Japan's Kyodo News reported from Yakutsk, Russia. By replacing the nuclei of egg cells from an elephant with those taken from the mammoth's marrow cells, embryos with mammoth DNA can be produced, Kyodo said, citing the researchers. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2069541/Woolly-mammoth-brought-life-cloned-bone-ma…

  7. An Android app developer has published what he says is conclusive proof that millions of smartphones are secretly monitoring the key presses, geographic locations, and received messages of its users. In a YouTube video posted on Monday, Trevor Eckhart showed how software from a Silicon Valley company known as Carrier IQ recorded in real time the keys he pressed into a stock EVO handset, which he had reset to factory settings just prior to the demonstration. Using a packet sniffer while his device was in airplane mode, he demonstrated how each numeric tap and every received text message is logged by the software. Ironically, he says, the Carrier IQ software recorded the “h…

  8. In a bipartisan effort, the House of Representatives and the United States Senate approved the Conference Committee report on spending bill H2112, which among other things, funds the United States Department of Agriculture. On November 18th, as the country was celebrating Thanksgiving, President Obama signed a law, allowing Americans to kill and eat horses. Essentially, one turkey was pardoned in the presence of worldwide media while in the shadows, buried under pages of fiscal regulation, millions of horses were sentenced to death. Horse slaughter has been prohibited in the United States as funding for inspections of horses in transit and at slaughter houses was non-exi…

Just got this email. Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users, Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums. We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was…
