  2. It was August 6, 1991, at a CERN facility in the Swiss Alps, when 36-year-old physicist Tim Berners-Lee published the first-ever website. It was, not surprisingly, a pretty basic one — according to CERN: Info.cern.ch was the address of the world’s first-ever web site and web server, running on a NeXT computer at CERN. The first web page address was http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html, which centred on information regarding the WWW project. Visitors could learn more about hypertext, technical details for creating their own webpage, and even an explanation on how to search the Web for information. There are no screenshots of this original page and, in any …

A major development out of Cupertino: Apple CEO Steve Jobs has stepped down, the board naming Tim Cook as his replacement. The company said "Steve's extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world's most innovative and valuable technology company." Steve himself published the following letter: I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come. I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee. As far as my successo…

The House version of the Internet Blacklist Bill was released October 26, 2011, with no effort to fix problems that existed in the Senate version. A violation of the First Amendment, it is contrary to official positions of internet freedom and censorship. “Under the Internet Blacklist Bill -- S.968, formally called the PROTECT IP Act -- the Department of Justice would force search engines, browsers, and service providers to block users' access to websites that have been accused of copyright infringement -- without even giving them a day in court.” This bill could shut down YouTube, Twitter and many other social websites that bring together the Occupy movements across …

Not really entering this contest so to speak, since I know I've been in and out of here so much lately that you're all probably tired of me. Anyways, just wanted to say hi to you all. Crap's been rough lately, with my job, family, and friends. I could create a 9-pararaph post to explain it all but I'll spare you that lol. Just wanted to say hi and although I don't participate as much as I lurk, I still consider you guys part of my family. Hope you're all doing well.

  11. NEW ORLEANS – Radar used in the stealth bomber and to find roadside bombs in Afghanistan and Iraq is moving into the sewers of Louisiana. The aim is finding empty spaces where dirt has seeped into sewers and water pipes before they spread to create huge buttholes or "stinkholes" that can collapse roadways and sidewalks above them. The radar was developed for the Defense Department. Researchers at Louisiana Tech University -- bankrolled by a Florida sewer inspection company -- adapted it to look for potential buttholes before they reach the surface. The system is to be tested in January in Slidell, where a butthole that popped up this fall alongside a major thoroughfare c…

  12. If you haven't heard about this 'recent' mystery of birds dying off, black bird or otherwise, check out Google. Here's an example - http://www.google.com/search?q=million+dead+blackbirds&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a t’s absolutely shocking news: The U.S. Department of Agriculture has publicly admitted it is responsible for the mass poisoning of tens of millions of birds over the last several years. It’s all part of the USDA’s program called “Bye Bye Blackbird,” and we even have the USDA’s spreadsheet where they document how many millions of birds (and other animals) they’ve poisoned to death. Definitely read on…

I decided to check that everything on Lamar's official campaign website was copyright-cleared and on the level. Lamar is using several stock images on his site, two of which I tracked back to the same photographic agency. I contacted the agency to make sure he was paying to use them, but was told that it's very difficult for them to actually check to see if someone has permission to use their images. (Great news, copyright violators!) However, seeing as they're both from the same agency and are unwatermarked, it seems fairly likely that he is the only person on the entire internet who is actually paying to use a stock image (and he'd be an idiot not to). So I took a look …

  15. Reinforcing the fact that Chris Dodd really does not get what's happening, and showing just how disgustingly corrupt the MPAA relationship is with politicians, Chris Dodd went on Fox News to explicitly threaten politicians who accept MPAA campaign donations that they'd better pass Hollywood's favorite legislation... or else: "Those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake," This certainly follows what many people…

  19. Ok so maybe the Big Mac ads aren't coming soon, but it's still kind of making me a little angry knowing it could come to that. Even worse than that. Imagine you're playing a game. Let's say a racing game. You're in the zone, furiously trying to fight for first place. (All following pictures, except the doggy, taken from actual Sony patent application) You go to make a pass in between two other cars and suddenly it's like you're in the Matrix as the gameplay slows down to a crawl. What the ****? I've never seen this before. You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me......... No folks. I'm not kidding about any of this. Sony has patented what they are calling "Ad…

In what will go down in history as one of the biggest ****-moves in the video game industry, THQ has fired its San Diego team right when E3 was going on. According to Kristan Reed from Pocket Gamer, they hoped that with all this E3 news going on, the recent sacking of an entire team would get buried under it. Let’s hope it doesn’t. “THQ fired everyone at THQ San Diego today Dan. They did it on an E3 day to bury the news. Bad form.” Sources here Here

Riots, fires, etc. I remember when I lived in the East Bay and the A's swept the SF Giants. There weren't any riots. Just parades with broomsticks (swept the series). Now we have dumbasses stacking recycling bins, couches, cars, etc and lighting them on fire in the streets. Retarded. Your team won, which is a good thing, and you go and show your support by doing terrible things. Makes so much sense.

I don't mean to leave you all hanging with how the Giveaway is going to work this year. I am going to get something up on Saturday evening. I have finals with school and family functions out the ass right now. I have taken into consideration everyone's thoughts from the past few years about the Giveaway and I think everyone will be please with how this will be work this year. I had originally wanted to do it on Dec. 31st, but I wanted everyone to have a full month before it starts and also it's New Years Eve and I wanted to make sure that everyone would be able to hide out here for the few hours it takes to do it. Again, I will get something up this Saturday evening T…
