General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

  1. Earlier this week Comcast came under fire for possible net neutrality violations after it was revealed that streams of on-demand video that it delivers to subscribers via Xbox Live won’t count toward its monthly 250 GB bandwidth cap. Well, the way Comcast delivers that content hasn’t changed, but the language it uses to describe the delivery method has been updated, perhaps in an effort to draw less attention to the issue. For those who forgot, the pertinent part of the FAQ previously tried to distinguish its VOD streams from those of competing video services like Netflix and Hulu Plus, saying that its content on Xbox was “being delivered over our private IP network and n…

  2. Comcast is already one of the worst companies in America, and now it wants to become one of the most annoying. As a part of the industry’s new “six-strikes” anti-piracy system, Comcast will hijack suspected pirates’ web browsers with a persistent pop-pop notification, preventing them from accessing the Internet until they change their ways. (Comcast calls it a “mitigation measure.”) Comcast says the browser hijacking will only go into effect after customers fail to respond to multiple previous Copyright Alerts like the one to the right. This means that no one should be surprised when Comcast cuts them off. “If a consumer fails to respond to several Copyright Aler…

  10. These days it seems like companies will do anything to squeeze a buck out of gamer’s already tight pockets. With limited edition console themed versions of video games releasing to answer every fanboys undying pleasure, it appears that video game themed consoles bundles are beginning to take the place of limited and special edition versions of video games. Are these overpriced bundled consoles swaying the gamer’s opinions to buy not only the game, but the console or more importantly are gamers even taking notice? “i stray away from them. after the novelty wore off, you’d be wanting for a classic look.” -MajorWhiteBoy Microsoft is one of those companies that tend to put…

  12. “I usually don’t think about it. I know I probably play a few games that people like my parents may find offensive, but it really doesn’t bother me. I just play them for what they are meant for… entertainment. Now while I can see many games that are debated by people as being offensive, media and other really don’t mention the fact that these things deemed “offensive” can be avoided. In Mass Effect, you can avoid the sex scene, and in Modern Warfare 2, opt out of playing the airport mission, or just do what I did and not have the heart to shoot anyone. Honestly, in these days, almost anything can be deemed “offensive,” but does that mean it really is?” -Skylark95 Of-fen-s…

His son had just recently enrolled at Chaparral High School. "Daniel," however, was an undercover cop with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department who " hounded" the teenager to sell him his prescription medicati…

  14. A Minnesota waitress and mom of five couldn't believe it when a stranger left a $12,000 tip in a to-go box on her table. Now she's in an equally unbelievable legal battle with the Moorhead Police, who seized the money, citing its "strong odor of marijuana." The officers say the cash is part of a drug investigation; the waitress' lawyer counters that the police have stolen an anonymous Samaritan's gift to a woman with well-known financial problems. The police won't release the cash for an independent drug test, although a pair of restaurant employees who are "familiar with [marijuana]" said it definitely wasn't weed-scented. "It smells of unfairness," Ritchie says. http://…

It’s one thing to make an object invisible, like Harry Potter’s mythical cloak. But scientists have made an entire event impossible to see. They have invented a time masker. Think of it as an art heist that takes place before your eyes and surveillance cameras. You don’t see the thief strolling into the museum, taking the painting down or walking away, but he did. It’s not just that the thief is invisible — his whole activity is. What scientists at Cornell University did was on a much smaller scale, both in terms of events and time. It happened so quickly that it’s not even a blink of an eye. Their time cloak lasts an incredibly tiny fraction of a fraction of a second. Th…

So here's "my" Costume Quest review that Assassin asked me to do for WouldYouKindly. I put "my" in sarcastic quotation marks, because there were quite a few edits I was unaware of when it was suddenly published after I couldn't find Assassin last night to help me reupload the images and finish it. Someone who I won't name for certain reasons from WYK (not Assassin, he has problems with the guy too) made some serious edits to the review and suddenly released it (i.e. hijacked), but for the most part my review is in there if anyone wants to check it out. I think Siren's review here was pretty good, Assassin just wanted me to help him with one for WYK. http://www.wouldyouk.…

But family member said Ms Ramage "would never put herself in that sort of a predicament''. "She's a good Christian girl. I've known her all her life and she has strong principles ... 22. Gareth Gath who suffers from cerebral palsy made a request to Visceral Games to add customizable controls to the PC version of Dead Space 2. Gath who has to play Dead Space 2 using a mouse with his chin is upset that he cannot assign the “walk forward” command to a mouse button. After his story made it through the internet, Dead Space 2 players started a petition to get his request heard and Visceral Games has indeed heard the request and are actively working on a patch to add customizable controls to the game. According to Joystiq, Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis said that the team is “passionate about getting this fixed and are hard at work on it.” “Dead Space 2 PC…

  24. I love Dark Souls, and now I love the game and it's director Hidetaka Miyazaki even more. I just read an article about something that definitely made me laugh. When the game was first coming out Miyazaki gave an interview to Famitsu magazine. In the article they were discussing some of the "starting items" you can select when you create a character. Most of these have clear descriptions of what they offer as a bonus, but one mysterious item listed was a subject of discussion for a long time now. The Pendant. Miyazaki in the interview commented that for him personally he'd take "the pendant or nothing at all". This sent the internet into a frenzy for quite a while. Wh…
