Battlefield 3 Will Have Day One Out of the Box Update
Talk about embarassing. EA has announced that Battlefield 3 will have a day one update that gamers will be required to install in order to play the game and that all media reviews of the shooter be held off until a week after it's release. EA has also added that Xbox 360 gamers will have to download the game to their hard drive in order to see the graphics at their best representation. What is EA's reasoning behind the day one update? DICE are perfectionists of course! “DICE are perfectionists — they will not stop polishing the game until it is in your hands” claimed EA. Why yes, gamers across the board will accept that giberish especially after the horrible, cheat filled beta preview for Battlefield 3 which happens to be less than a week away from it's launch. EA must think we are stupid mindless drones with controllers in our hands. Sorry EA and DICE. This girl will be ponying up for Modern Warfare 3 instead. Gamercide's Top Scariest Games
Boo Gamerciders! It is Halloween and we here at Gamercide are celebrating by sharing with you our top favorite scary games that we played since we could hold a controller in our tiny little bitty baby hands. Let the fright fest begin! spawn622 - Gamercide Writer/Reviewer and Gnome Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem "The overall story of the game doesn't really scare all that much, but having to always keep a check on your "Sanity Meter" really does bring a sense of dread to the game. Once it gets low enough camera angles will change, the volume of the game goes up and down, and other random things start to happen that really do screw with your mind. Ghosts and demon fighting is bad enough, but when a game starts screwing with your mind things can get downright creepy. This one needs a direct sequel or HD remake soon." Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly "Mio and Mayu don't have magical powers or weapons to battle the evil spirits in the village they stumble in to, the only way to fight the spirits is to use your trusty camera. There's nothing like seeing a spirit, whipping out your camera, and having a ghost show up right in your camera lens. Atmosphere, game play, graphics...EVERYTHING about this game is creepy. With 4 possible endings, (One added to the Xbox remake) things don't turn out well, every. Every game in the series is great, but this one stands out to me the most." PeeKnuckle - Gamercide Editor and Gnome The Suffering "It's part spooky creatures out to get you and part psychological brain twister. I recall one part of the game real vividly that really got to me; I reached a control room that allowed you to use the CCTV's that are setup around the jail you're locked down in. As I'm switching from camera to camera, I come across the one that is in the room I'm in. It's perspective is from behind me about 10 feet. It shows a creature walking up to my back from behind and it's definitely going to attack me. So, you frantically exit the camera mode to turn around. The creatures in the game are totally jacked up, too. From monsters with blades for limbs, to ones seemingly made from racks of guns and even ones with hypodermic needles for fingers. It may not hold up to today's standards of graphics, but they were good enough to freak you out when it was released." Chastity "Siren" - Gamercide Head Writer and Head Cheerleader Resident Evil "The first time I watched my father play this game I was freaked out. It probably did not help that I was a young pup either. I will never forget when he ran down the hall towards the beginning of the game and those dogs jumped through the glass. I shrieked, well like a little girl. Then when it was my turn to take over the controller and help solve the puzzles, I was too afraid to go through doors, because I always thought the dogs were going to come get me." Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem "This game was not scary as in monster scary, it was mind freakish scary. When I first played this on my Gamecube and my sanity meter started rising causing her to see things or the volume appeared to turned down, etc...I was actually thinking it was me. That game is a classic and needs to be remade or put on the Xbox Live Arcade." Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams "Pyramid Head and deranged nurses. 'Nuff said." AudaciousKevin - Gamercide Reviewer "Well, I'm pretty desensitized and don't find much truly scary, so the only thing that really gets me are the cheap scares. The ones where you're just doing your thing and not expecting a fight, then a REALLY loud noise happens and you are suddenly under attack lol. So I'd say Dead Space, and to a lesser extent Dead Space 2, are good contenders. Dead Space is a very atmospheric game, especially when played with surround sound. All kinds of deformed beasties await your arrival so they can tear you to shreds. No joke, the only time I really jumped a little, was when a fire sprinkler suddenly activated at over nine thousand decibels (aided by an orchestral horror sound cue, of course) in Dead Space 2. " Dateranoth - Gamercide Reviewer and Quiet Gnome "I haven't finished the game because I haven't really started it. Honestly a lot of games scare me (unlike movies) because I get so engrossed that it feels real. Amnesia is one of those games that just the atmosphere freaks me out. I would say it is at the top of my list as scariest newer game. Doesn't help that you can't really do anything but run when something is after you. It's sad really because games like that are fun, and I rarely finish them. I end up having to stop and take breaks so often that it's sad. Either that or play without sound. Great sounds make a great horror game. Guess I get too in character with my games." Title - Gamercide Reviewer "I don't play scary games because I get scared , but I'll throw in these two. F.E.A.R: First Encounter Assault Recon There is something about small children that really gets under my skin. When the HUD starts to flicker, you know something is coming. Alma always seems to show up at just the right moment, in the corner of your eye, a shadow on the wall, footsteps and laughter. All this keeps you anticipating when she might appear next. S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat While not a horror game in the truest sense, the atmosphere in Call of Pripyat is neck deep. Trekking through an abandoned city, 5 bullets left in your assault rifle, hoping you can make it to camp. Or a race against time to survive an emission, when radioactivity floods through the Zone. Taking cover in a nearby bunker only to crawl into a dark corner and listen to the sounds of beast moving around in the blackness is a great experience. " There you have it. The top list of games that made us here on the Gamercide staff sleep with one eye open. Happy Haunting! Click here to view the article

Sony's PS3 Sales Improve, Close to Catching Microsoft
In a surprising and not so scandalous news flash, Sony's Playstation 3 sales are finally catching up to Microsoft's sales of the Xbox 360. Sony released their financial reports for the Q2 fiscal year and show that the Playstation has moved 55.5 million units worldwide, just about catching and placing them in position to be on the verge of passing their rival console, the Xbox 360 which has moved 56.7 million units worldwide. It is nice to see something good coming out of Sony's camp instead of the usual hackfest that it seems has been haunting the brand since the beginning of the year. via MCV Click here to view the article

Trials Evolution Takes a "When It
RedLynx, the creators behind the ever so popular and madly addiciting arcade game Trials may have been aquired by Ubisoft this morning, however that is not stopping them from working on their continued relationship with Microsoft to get the next bone breaking Trials game out the door. However fans who have been waiting for an announcement on a release date for the next game in the must have series, Trials Evolution, might have to wait a bit longer, because it appears that Trials has fallen under the "when it's done" trap. RedLynx's Jason Bates announced shortly after the aquisition went public that the game will release whenever it is completed and that Ubisoft is respecting their prior responsbilities with Microsoft meaning that Trials Evolution will still be published under Microsoft, not their new owner Ubisoft. "What we've been holding to is the 'when it's done' approach. We are going to take the time to polish and test the game to the best of our ability before we release it, to ensure it matches the quality people have come to expect from a Trials game. We are looking forward to working with Ubisoft to ensure that Trials Evolution does get the attention it deserves when the game arrives. Ubisoft will respect the current commitments ... Microsoft is still the publisher of the title." via Joystiq Click here to view the article

Namco Tries to Cash In As Dark Souls Ships 1.5 Million Worldwide
Have you tried the insanely difficult and often maddening world of Namco Bandai's RPG, Dark Souls? If not, I can't say I blame you. I love insanely difficult games, however this is one I will not touch out of respect for my controller to ensure that it stays in one piece. If you have yet to try it, because you are debating on whether or not to torture yourself through grueling gameplay, then you will be happy to know that Namco has ensured that just about every gamer gets to play Dark Souls by making sure to ship 1.5 million units worldwide. So wait on my fellow gamers. Out of the those 1.5 million worldwide units, those of us here in the United States have received the majority of the shipment at 670,000 units. Compared to the amount that Asia received, 40,000, that is a pretty beefy number. Europe received 470,000 and Japan received 370,000 units where the game was published exclusively on the Playstation 3. via Andriasang Click here to view the article

EA is started off the week the right way, by banning hundreds of cheaters, glitchers, and exploiters in Battlefield 3. "This week we’ve banned hundreds of offending accounts and have stats-wiped accounts for exploiting (such as boosting)... (2 of More)", tweeted EA over Twitter. "We are working on banning as many people as we can as quickly as we can. We have a zero tolerance policy for cheating." Fail Tuesday - PETA Attacks Nintendo Over Mario
Mario, a character that has been around since 1981's classic Donkey Kong and not to mention the face of Nintendo, has fallen under attack from one of the mosted hated groups ever comprised of people who need a mental examination, PETA. Instead of concentrating their efforts on animal poachers or saving the rain forest, PETA has decided that Mario is a fur hating, animal killer all because of the popular Tanooki suit that resembles a tan raccoon. PETA has even launched a Mario Kills Tanooki website that depicts the fan favorite character taking a real like Tanuki raccoon dog, holding it's decapitated head, and dancing in it's blood while the head is some how crying despite missing it's body. This is not the first time PETA has attacked video games by creating a "video game" of their own. Last year they wasted their time by creating an anti Super Meat Boy game called Super Tofu Boy, because you know, Tofu is not only healthy but incredibly badass in all of it's tofu-ness. Remember kids, if you purchase a new copy of the just released Super Mario 3D Land you are not only aiding Mario in rescuing Princess Peach and having fun doing it, but also killing, maming, decapitating, and skinning the real life Tanuki. via Ingame MSNBC Click here to view the article

PS3 Gamers Not Getting Promised Saints Row: The Third Content
Sony CEO Jack Tretton made his Sony fanbase a huge promise that turns out might just be a big pile of poo. Tretton made the announcement at this year's E3, regarding exclusive Saint's Row: The Third multiplayer content that only the PS3 was getting. He promised users that they would be receiving an "over the top exclusive mulitplayer game mode.". According to the fine fellows over at Joystiq both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions are the same and that there are no differences in either version. Joystiq did reach out to THQ and received a big fat, "no comment.". Many websites are speculating that Tretton was speaking about Whored Mode, however the PC, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3 all have this co-op mode. via Joystiq and IGN Click here to view the article

Kefka Palazzo is the most bats**t insane villain of the entire series, and hence the most badass. Been researching frame data and different matchup tips for a variety of fighters. I would do crazy things for a Madcatz Tournament Edition Fightstick. (ps3) Siren - "Can Santa give me something that is not motion controlled, doesn't have anything to do with Modern Warfare, and is totally original, bloody, and not your average video game?" spawn622 - "Talking Cave Johnson Portrait and Portal 2 Warning Sign Coasters. For long gaming nights, Whiskey Stones and for the following morning, Self Stirring Mug." Click here to view the article

Top Gaming Disappointments of 2011
While most websites are getting together their top [enter random number here] gaming lists of 2011, I decided what better why to usher in a new year then to go over the list of disappointments from the gaming industry for the 2011 year. I doubt anybody will learn from their mistakes, but hey this gamer can hope. Right? (May contain spoilers for games that you have not played yet. You have been warned) Saint's Row: The Third At the top of my list is Volition and THQ's, Saint's Row: The Third. I waited so long for this as did many fans of the series and then once I got my wanna be gangsta hands on it I was left saying, "What the f*#% did I just play?". Between the high flying airplane escape scenes, to zombies, (seriously guys, WTF?) and Gat's unemotional demise I was not only a tab bit disappointed and miffed, but also confused because there were times when I thought I was missing cutscenes that should have been there. Also aiding in the disappointment department was the utterly short and not worth caring about campaign and the missing of stores, activities, and personalization options with your character regarding clothes, piercings and tattoos. My only hope is that Volition and THQ take this step back and move two steps forward with the next Saint's Row. Modern Warfare 3 Campaign I was eager and extremely anxious to see how the current storyline in Modern Warfare was going to end up when Activision along with the multiple developers who worked on this title released Modern Warfare 3. Unfortunately I expected too much, because in roughly 3 hours this storyline ended and I could have cared less. Sure there was one huge moment when I felt a little tinge of sadness, but where was the intense and insane storyling that I come to love and expect from the Modern Warfare series? Well here's to hoping that with Modern Warfare 4 it is strictly handled by the hands over at Infinity Ward or else the other developers do their research a tad bit longer before releasing a disappointing campaign that uses the name, Modern Warfare. Out of the Box Updates and DLC There are several of you offenders out there this year and you better be listening. 2011 was the year for day one updates and DLC and I for one grew tired of it very fast. There are no amount of excuses that you can come up with to change my frown around. All we want to do on day one of a game release is buy the game, take off the fresh shiny wrapper, and play it. I for one do not want to have to sit there waiting for an update to install and then have day one DLC that I need to purchase, because you know...you "could not" fit it all in. Bull crap. I wish for 2012 to be a day one update and day one DLC free year, but sadly that is a "wish in one hand and poo in the other and see which one gets the fullest" thing. Sony Got Hacked....Say What?! Sony's lack luster response to being hacked in early 2011 lands them here. I do not think I need to say too much on this subject that was not already said, but note to Sony, next time your services are hacked and thousands of your customers private information is at stake, please be kind to let them know immediately. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Before I have rotten tomatos thrown at me for even mentioning Skyrim in the same sentence of disappointment, here me out. When the game first released there were texture issues on the Xbox 360 if the game was installed. Then let's not forget about the patch that broke the game and required another patch to fix it. Xbox Live TV Service/Apps Just when I thought I could finally ditch that lumpy cable box, because of Microsoft's Xbox Live TV service announcement I was sadly mistaken. While the lineup may sound great, the catches are not. To use Verizon FIOS or Xfinity you have to be a current customer of either and an additional fee will be added to your bill. Now how does that make sense? In Microsoft's mind it does, but unfortunately for those of us where either cable service isn't an option we are SOL and the ones that do have an account for either brand, why would they pay an extra $80 a month for something that they can watch on their TV without having to listen to their Xbox sound like it is going to kick the bucket soon? No thank you. So there you have it, my list of gaming disappointments for the year of 2011. Do you agree or do you have a list of your own gaming disappointments? Sound off on our forums with what you think are the biggest disappointments of 2011. Click here to view the article

Fail of the Day - Uneducated Parents of Gamers Concerned Over Modern Warfare 3 Appearing on Christmas Lists
Today's Fail of the Day is being brought to you by the parents who choose to be uneducated about video games and the associates at a Best Buy who are just plain stupid. Naturally with Christmas comes lists for Santa that are filled with video game requests from little gamers all across the country. It should come as no surprise that Modern Warfare 3 is topping those lists this year. For one news website based in Virginia this "violent" video game is causing some parents concern, because they and what a shocker here, know nothing about it. According to WHSV.com, the mature rating is causing parents to be cautious and they decided to ask the gamer know it alls at a local Best Buy what they have been doing to deal with this mounting issue and one associate says, they have been keeping parents from buying the game. "A lot of times we are going to push them away from it. Just because they need to be over 17 years old. Just for the fact that there is going to be a lot of blood, violence and cursing in that game," states Richard LaBossiere who also said that occasionally people do get upset over hearing those cold hard facts. WHSV also asked Sallie Darling (no I'm not making that name up) who handles the Modern Warfare 3 merchandising in the area what her thoughts were and her response was, "It's always seemed ironic to me, with all the wars going on. That people would still like violent games, in particular war games,". So there you go folks. Ground breaking "advice" and opinions brought to you by the people who work at Best Buy, because apparently they know everything in the world about video games which is why they were chosen as the "go to guys" for advice. Parents listen up. If you want advice and have concern on a video game do some research yourself and pay attention to the ESRB ratings and use them as a guide. Do not walk up to a counter at of all places a Best Buy and address your concerns. Or quite simply, if you have concerns don't buy the game. You of all people know what your child can and cannot handle. Having somebody else tell you that you shouldn't buy that for someone you have been raising since they were born is like walking into a candy store and buying a peanut butter chew for another parent's kid who is allergic to peanut butter and of course you don't know that. Trust your parental instincts and everything will be fine if you decide to purchase Modern Warfare 3 or any other M rated game on your child's list this year. You do not need of all people Best Buy employees to tell you that. Click here to view the article
