Nintendo to Reveal New Console at E3?

Featured Replies

According to IGN, Nintendo will be revealing a new console that is more higher powered than the Xbox 360 and PS3 at this year’s E3.

Game Informer is also claiming the same thing by citing mulitple sources and that the new console will be able to run games at HD resolutions.

The new console is expected to get a 2012 launch and Nintendo is supposedly hoping that they can bring back third-party developers and “hardcore” fans.

Nintendo says more powerful than 360 and PS3. With the current gen consoles already being more "powerful" than the Wii, it leaves me to wonder what the near future holds when M/S and Sony announce their successors and how they'll stack up to Nintendo's "hardcore" system.

Also... will that system then be obsolete in 3 years time?

Nintendo put themselves in between a rock and a hard place with the Wii. If they release their new console too soon, Sony and MS will definitely have a leg up on them when they release there consoles a year or two after that. If it's not soon enough, they run the risk of even more of their market share being lost to the other two consoles manufacturers. I think Nintendo may have screwed themselves when they release the Wii as under powered as it was. The next-gen graphics envelope will still be pushed by Microsoft and Sony, their current consoles still have a good two or three years till they really have to start thinking about their next entries into the consoles market.

I don't see the hardcore crowd coming back to Nintendo for their fix. And they really have to reevaluate their approach to online gaming this time around, to be a viable competitor. IDK, I lost alot of faith in Nintendo after the Gamecube. An even crazier question, what is Nintendo going to do about storage format? Are they going to pay Sony for Blu-ray, develop a new media type altogether or stick with what will almost certainly be an obsolete format when the system releases, DVD?

I've thought they've had this up their sleeve since the kinnect came out last October and Nintendo made some comment (can;t remember what it was now), but it made me think they must have something up their sleeve, otherwise they'd be panicking... not making smart *** comments. Then last week someone analyzed their data from the last couple console matches and everything started looking REAL similar. Better graphics than 360 and PS3 though??? maybe about as good, but better? not very likely.

The key here is timing. If they get the system out two years before Microsoft and Sony, there is a lot of market share to gain during that time frame.

"Add me bro! I'm 462873616382183!".

This.

So ridiculous

I believe Nintendo is setting themselves up for failure in the long run. What is Nintendo going to do when Sony and Microsoft announce their new consoles years down the road? If Nintendo can't answer them with another console, then they will fall behind. This is a gamble and I really don't think it will pay off. Sure they might get some third party developers back and some fans, but not unless they have something big up their sleeve, I just think they are setting themselves up for failure.

Not to mention I can't take them seriously anymore a console maker. Since the Wii, I just view Nintendo as the novelty, family friendly game people.

From the creators of the Wii comes the all new must-have next-gen gaming console sensation of the century! The Gaming Overlord Active Tracking Sensory Experience console.

It's pretty apparent to all of us here that having a "more powerful" does not grantee being #1 in console sales. I never grew up with Nintendo .. I was a Sega kid .. so I don't care about Mario, Metroid, Donkey Kong, and I HATE the Zelda games. They'll always be able to capture some kind of market share but from what I gather with the few people I've spoken with, only the hardcore nostalgic "Nintendo fans" will stick with the company. As for myself they really don't innovate their games that much. Mario Galaxy is pretty much Mario 64, and the rest just seem to be side scrollers.

You know if you try to type goatse in a post on the Microsoft Xbox forums it changes the word into either "Xbox" or "Microsoft". I can't remember, but it's funny.

I think Ocarina of Time on the Game Cube was the first Zelda game I play. (yeah I know it's from the N64) and I hate hate HATED IT!!! .. I hate the one for Wii, whatever it's called, .. they just annoy me. Why can't link just put down one of those bombs he has that never get used to blow up a rotting wooden door. Why do I have travel through 3 dungeons, fight a boss in the standard "3 hit attack" and THEN get the key to open the door that leads into MORE dungeons and a boss that has a standard "3 hit attack" ?? .. why can't the stupid villagers find their own damn pin and fix their own damn windmill. .. god I hate Zelda!

You can make those arguements about many games. LoL

To each their own I suppose. The puzzles in the dungeons and strategic boss fights are what drew me in.

Although the Water Temple in OoT can go f itself haha.
