LOL.. LOVE this thread, and as mush as i like the potter books, and movies I have to say : REDACTED Would definitely win!

I love Harry Potter too but Darth Vader here .. he hunted and killed thousands of Jedi, and was finally defeated by hundreds of thousands Kilowatts of electricity. Voldemort killed hundreds of sub par wizards and was defeated by love. .. Love is his Achilles Hheel huh? .. not very badass.

love, on a sitck.

im sorry and ima let you finish

but

Lord Vader is the baddest Evil Lord of all times....

of all times!

Vader was defeated by hundreds of thousands of Kilowatts of electricity you say? Surely Voldemort can't do that. Vader is definitely going to kick Voldemort's noseless arse then without a dou.......

........

......

....oh wait

im just saying, voldermort couldnt kill one little helpless child. what kind of dark lord is that?

And Darth couldn't bring himself to kill Luke either. LoL

If we're going to agree on anything here, I'm sure we can say that Voldemort is more "evil"

And Darth couldn't bring himself to kill Luke either. LoL

the difference here is luke was not a small hepless child, any true lord of darkness wouldnt have stopped

And Darth couldn't bring himself to kill Luke either. LoL

ah .. no .. you're wrong

  • Author

no it doesnt sound familiar at all

Hmmm, Luke was definitely a whiny brat. Complaining about some power converters at Tosche Station maybe? LoL

Both Luke and Harry were whiny brats. They both had incredible luck in overcoming each of their "dark lords" before they became powerful enough to actually take them head on, etc, etc, etc.

I'm saying that Voldy and Darth are BOTH Dark Lords, just that Voldy is more inherently "evil". :)

You are entitled to your own opinions though and I totally respect it!

Well Voldemort is more evil. Point proven here...

and here's little Ani...

Voldemort is more evil but Vader would still kick his ***.

LoL So true.

The real question is what "versions" of each Dark Lord would be fighting each other? Honestly I think without the Elder Wand that Darth would absolutely destroy Voldy, but with that wand I think it'd be a pretty close friggin fight.

I will bring this to a whole different nerd level .. Ankin Skywalker and Darth Varder are two different people .. much the same way Voldemort and Tom ..(what's his last name ??) are

and on a very sad point .. Irvin Kershner just died. :(

My link

I don't know what you mean. Do you mind explaining to me? I'm enjoying this discussion. LoL

They are the same entities, but in terms of Anakin it was a mental progression from innocence to power hunger caused and exploited by the fear of loss.

Voldemort just wanted power, even from a very young age as Tom Riddle.

It's a classic tale of heroism that Joseph Campbell is much better at explaining than me. I think he wrote about in "Hero with a Thousand Faces" where he talks about how masks can change (or alter) the individual. This is also a great question when discussing Heros/Villains and the masks they wear.

"Is Bruce Wayne "Batman" or is Batman "Bruce Wayne"? What changes with an individual when the mask is put on?? .. how do they react to situations around them?? .. when does the personalities of the "mask" take over and the individual cease to be?? The easy (and wrong) answer is that they both inhabit the same body and experience the same life .. therefore Bruce Wayne is Batman AND Batman is Bruce Wayne. .. .. not really the case. Also in Star Wars .. since it's a Star Wars discussion .. do you remember Obi Wan telling Luke that Vader betrayed and murdered Luke's father? .. Lucas was dealing with how masks can begin to change/alter/manipulate and later destroy (or kill) the original psyche of the character. Sure they experience the same life but they are two totally different people.

The most recent example of this that I can think of that clarifies what happens when the mask takes over in from the Watchmen comic (NOT THE MOVIE!!!) .. if you start to analyze what Moore and Gibbsons were doing with The New Nite Owl and Rorschach, you'll have a good understanding what I'm referring to. With Nite Owl, Daniel Drieberg could function as a human being with out wearing the suit. He was impotent, depressed, no friends, and hardly left his home, but when the mask was on .. he was a completely different person, with a small amount of his original or human side still there. (much like with Vader/Anakin). But with Rorschach the mask completely took over. Walter Kovacs no longer existed and only Rorschach was there .. there was never a moment when the mask did not have complete control over him even when he wasn't wearing it.

When Vader's mask was first put on Anakin no loger there (or had control) .. hence why Obi Wan told Luke his father was murdered. .. from a certain point of view.

But what about Anakin slaughtering all the Jedi in the Academy (including the children)? This was before the Vader mask. :( I can possibly see the relation once he gets the Vader mask, but his mental progression from innocent child to power hungry due to fear of loss can't be explained in the sense you are trying to. It's a fantastic arguement, and I love Joseph Campbells ideas especially in regards to superheroes, but I don't see the relation of his idea when it comes to Vader in terms of what he was as a child and the man he turned in to. As a young boy we see him innocent and loving and caring of his mother. A carefree child that doesn't fully understand the implication of his own, albeit unnurtured, force powers. Eventually his own extremely protective nature is played off of by the Sith, turning his love into a fear of loss, and explosions of anger when he does experience those losses (i.e. killing a whole village of sandpeople at the death of his "mother"). So, at what point was Anakin "murdered" and turned in to Vader? It was not an immediate change in my opinion but more of a progression. He still had that latent love inside him however, as evidenced in saving his son from being killed by the Emperor.

Also, you can't really apply that arguement to Voldemort, as he doesn't wear any masks and was always essentially evil. Even as a young child he was fascinated with the darker magics, killed classmate children and was interesting in fracturing his own soul to become invincible.

I think the mask is being used more figuratively in the case of both Vader and Voldemort. Anakin's true turn to becoming Vader was when he chose Palpatine over the Jedi Order. Once he became a Sith Apprentice he ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader. The latent fear of loss and his explosion of power on the Tusken Raiders was the start of his downward spiral of emotions that Palpatine/Darth Sidious played off of to make the turn a little easier. Even as a young child Palpatine was nurturing those emotions in Anakin.

I do see your point though Chris, where is that true "line in the sand" where one ceases to exist and the other takes over. I question that about both Anakin/Vader and Riddle/Voldemort though. <shrugs>
