PSN's Terms and Conditions

"We exclude all liability for loss of data or unauthorised access to your data, Sony Online Network account or Sony Online Network wallet and for damage caused to your software or hardware as a result of using or accessing Sony Online Network,".

Different laws in different countries may say otherwise, though.

The Information Commissioners Office (ICO), an independent UK authority which seeks to uphold information rights in the public interest, has responded to this clause, telling us: "While we are unable to say where the data is being stored at present, if it was in the UK, this clause would not free them from their obligations under the UK Data Protection Act."

Which, is very interesting, since Sony mentioned they're moving their network infrastructure.

"We are initiating several measures that will significantly enhance all aspects of PlayStation Network's security and your personal data, including moving our network infrastructure and data center to a new, more secure location, which is already underway.".

Now that is just stupid...

A letter from Howard Stringer

As a company we — and I — apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused by this attack.

In the last few months, Sony has faced a terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan. But now we are facing a very man-made event – a criminal attack on us — and on you — and we are working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies around the world to apprehend those responsible.

Still won't own up for not having updated networks and security protocols in place. I've been waiting for a sincere, humbling admission by them. Each time I think they're going to do it, they end it with pointing the finger away from them.

But PK, it has Blu-Ray. 'Nuff said.

It's cool, Sony. Keep pointing at the hackers.

Publicly posted on the forums and Sony did nothing about it... wow...

I kept thinking I'd hold out and get the PS3 and use it as a "swiss-army knife" blu-ray player.

Looks like I'm just going to get a blu-ray player and skip the PS3. Sorry Sony. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

That's how I feel, Capt. I know their lawyers are telling them not to freely admit anything, but it just seems they're pointing the finger everywhere else, instead of the place it needs to go.

If you have a console network, you best believe hacking attempts are going to be made on it. In fact, you can bet your life it will be attempted multiple times. People aren't just greedy, but also curious. For a company that's so keen on their users updating their game files, they sure were lax in updating their own stuff.

I'd be real happy if they'd just apologize without any deflection in their apology. Just something that says, we failed to ensure your privacy and security over our networks.
