Diablo 3 has two auction houses - one which deals in real money and another in in-game gold - through which players can buy and sell in-game items. Through a new program called "Borderlands Cooperative," Academy of Art University students have the opportunity to produce a short animated film in the Borderlands universe, using materials and guidance from 2K Games and Gearbox. The multidisciplinary effort gives Academy of Art students the chance to form teams and submit storyboards. The chosen storyboard, and its team, will then be given the go-ahead, and a chance to interview for internships at 2K. Students get some valuable experience out of the deal, and 2K and Gearbox get a free, fanmade advertisement. A Crytek-authorised TimeSplitters game is in development for PC, built using the publisher's sparkly CryEngine 3.
