Quote of the Day - Reggie Fils-Aime Bashes "Garage" Developers
In Nintendo's world there are two different types of indie developers. The "Garage" developer who has an idea, but little to no experience that apparently according to this little quote are only envisioning themselves of a developer and are not passionate about their "craft" and then there is the full on "Indie" developer who has a lot of experience and worked with bigger developers and publishers and that is who Nintendo wants to work with. No surprise there Fils-Aime. "We've been clear that we want to work with independent developers who understand this business, who have experience in this business. These are people who spent time working with larger publishers and larger developers, but had that idea in the back of their head that they needed to bring to life ... and so that's the type of entity that we want to work with. These are talented developers. That's different from the person who envisions themselves as a developer, but actually hasn't necessarily created anything, who doesn't necessarily understand what it takes in this business to create compelling content. That's where we draw the line. I'll tell you, if someone calls us tomorrow who has no experience in the gaming industry, but has a passion and has a great idea, our perspective would be, 'Great, but get some experience. Understand your craft, and then come back to us." Remember kiddies, in 20 years when you design the next big game, Reggie Fils-Aime called you "talentless". via Joystiq Click here to view the article

Get Super Mario All-Stars Before It's Gone!
It should come as no surprise that the 2 million dollar seller on the Wii, Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition is doing so well. Costing $30, fans of the series can get their hands on all of the Mario classics including Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 3, as well as a book that explains the history behind the plumber and an audio soundtrack of the series music. via IGN Click here to view the article

Boy Kills Mother Over Playstation
Sad news has surfaced out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 16 year old Kendall Anderson attempted to kill his mother two times and when both attempts failed, he beat her to death with a chair leg after Kendall's mother Rashida Anderson took away his Playstation. On Thanksgiving, Kendall and Rashida had gotten into a lengthy argument when Rashida decided to take his Playstation away as punishment. The next day Kendall spent three hours debating if he should kill his mother or not and ultimately decided to do so while she was sleeping. On the first attempt, Kendall tried to beat her to death with a hammer. When that failed he decided to "cremate" her putting her body into the stove in the kitchen. The third and final attempt to kill his mother proved fatal as he beat her with a chair leg. He then took her lifeless body and hid it in the alley behind their house. According to Hot Blooded Gaming, the 11th grader is now facing charges of murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and abuse of a corpse. Reflecting on his murderous actions Kendall told the court, "If I could, I would not do it again. I really miss my mom . . . she was the only person who cared for me." via Philly.com (Thanks Chris) Click here to view the article

Dumbass of the Day - Games On Demand Additions Looking to Take Your Money
Today's Dumbass of the Day or the Dumbass Move of the Day is courtesy of Games on Demand, Xbox Live's digital download service. Announced today were the latest additions to the Games on Demand service and it is an example of sheer stupidity and outrageous prices. If you have yet to get your hands on Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2, you can purchase it on Games on Demand for a whopping $59.99. Keep in mind that this game released November 10, 2009 and can be purchased on Amazon for $35.00 and a used copy can be purchased at video game retail king GameStop for $23.00. Also available for purchase are Aliens vs. Predator for $30.00 and Rapala Tournament Fishing for $20.00. Microsoft you should be ashamed of yourself for putting those prices on not just these games that are available in Games on Demand, but all of them. Most of those games don't even deserve $5.00 added to the purchase price especially after they have been out for almost a couple years and belong at the bottom of any gaming barrel. On behalf of gamers everywhere I issue a huge thank you for showing how much you care about us and that you have indeed proved yourself to be the Dumbass of the Day. via Joystiq Click here to view the article

Australia Gives Mortal Kombat a Fatality of Their Own, Warner Bros. Fights Back
Late February Australia struck down another video game from being sold in their country due to the violence in the game. This time it was NetherRealm's and Warner Bros's bloody good fighting game, Mortal Kombat. The reason for the ban involved a series staple, the fatalities. The Australian Classification Board which refused to rate the game said, "......The game includes over 60 fatalities (some of which are noted above) which contain explicit depictions of dismemberment, decapitation, disembowelment and other brutal forms of slaughter. Despite the exaggerated conceptual nature of the fatalities and their context within a fighting game set in a fantasy realm, impact is heightened by the use of graphics which are realistically rendered and very detailed." The ban should come as no surprise considering that Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 had to be remade after their appeal was lost. The blood and body parts were removed in order to jive with Australia's rating system. While all of this news may seem depressing for fans of the series in Australia, the good news is that Warner Bros. is fighting back by appealing the classification boards rating and the statement below is proof that they are working to get the issue resolved. "After careful consideration Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Australia have decided to appeal to the Australian Classification Review Board against the RC (Refused Classification) decision given to Mortal Kombat. After reviewing both the game play and the Board's original decision WBIE Australia believe the violence in the game is on par with numerous other titles readily available for sale in the Australian market. As such the company wants to exhaust all options to make the game available to Mortal Kombat fans in this country. An identical version of the game will be submitted for appeal." (IGN AU) Whether or not Warner Bros. will be successful in their appeal remains to be seen, but unfortunately appeals usually do not work with Australia and game ratings. via IGN AU and Game Podunk Click here to view the article

Man Hears "Guilty" in Brutal Beating of a Child Over GTAIV
Rocky Donadio, an ex-soldier from Fort Sill has been found guilty in the brutal beating of his 8 year old girlfriend's son. The beating was so severe that the child's intestines burst and he had to spend 5 months in the hospital recovering. According to KSWO, when the child was able to speak to police about the incident he told them that Donadio "had stomped on his stomach because he had erased an X-Box game." When the incident occurred, the boy's mother and Donadio told police that he fell out of his bed. When police discovered the severity of the boys injuries, they pressed the couple and found out the horrible story. The jury has sentenced Donadio to 75 years in prison. via KSWO Click here to view the article
