Bioshock Infinite video review by Adam Sessler

Great review. Much better than gamespot. I felt like their review had some spoilers but this one was much better.

Just beat it earlier today, it's great. Don't worry, nothing really spoiled in the Sessler's review, it's really story you have to sit down and think about and discuss.

I decided to get this early. I am 2/3 through the game. I think it is a great game and a work of art. I am glad to be playing it and do not regret my purchase whatsoever. The theme, world, atmosphere and story all feel great and really pulled me in. Elizabeth really made the game better for me. I can't wait to see the ending in the next night or two.

However, without spoiling anything, while they really captured me with the world, art and story if I had to be more critical in an area I would say that I don't see anything amazingly revolutionary about the gameplay mechanics. None of these are a bad thing per se but the weaponry doesn't feel like anything new that you haven't seen already. Vigors are cool but nothing that blows my mind. Skylines are fun but can be disorienting. Some might disagree with those statements.

The question I have for myself is what is going to push me to run this game a second time? Play through 1 for me is all about learning about the world, story etc. On play through 2 your not as concerned with the story since you just experienced. What is going to keep you coming back? Yep, the gameplay mechanics.

Are the gameplay mechanics strong enough for me to go again right away? The answer for me is not really. My only regret is I don't have that "OMG I got to start another play through right away!" feeling. If the DLC is done right it could push me.

That said it is definitely worth getting and playing through but I think the super high ratings may of upped the expectations a little too much.

Oh, I dunno. The ending alone may make you want to replay it. There's always the harder difficulties or your own limits. Use certain guns, etc. I agree it's nothing new. Other than the Skyline it plays like Bioshock. Still, I got 14 hours out of it on play through one. I feel like I got my money's worth in story alone.

I was hoping someone would say that the ending was awesome and could invoke a replay! That's good to here. Maybe I should of began on a harder difficulty than normal. Again, I don't regret getting it. Your right that the 14-15 hours that I will get out of this with the story and such was worth it. I really searched every nook and cranny of this game while playing too since I love the world. On play through 2, if I do it again, I will not spend as much time searching every corner for stuff and that could speed up the game for me a little.

I liked Elizabeth's mechanic. She always seems to find the thing you need when you really need it. Stopping every 5 minutes to catch a coin, though? lol

I thought the guns were done fairly well for the era. Would have been really neat if they utilized the same technology that kept the city afloat into a weapon. An old-timey railgun? Fuck yeah!

I would have been bothered by the coins more if I wasn't so amused by it half the time. I always got a good laugh when I'd either turn around and she'd be right in my face, or she would be half way across the room, behind a wall, to pull of a perfect trick throw. lol. I never tried it, but I did wonder how long she would hold on to it if you never accepted it.

I liked the guns, but I never felt the incentive to really try different ones. Was my own play choice, but I wish you could have had more than two.

Elizabeth's mechanic is good and I would like to see more games do it. It made me feel like I had some sort of real companion rather than someone just following me. I also like how she kinda runs in front of you at times when exploring instead of just always being behind you.

Catching the coin was neat but at times it feels like an interruption to me cause it seemed to happen while I was searching other things. Catching anything else was always good though cause most of the time I really needed it like you guys are saying.

The guns were good but an old time railgun would of been bad ass like you say PK! I would of liked to see a little more variation here for sure and like Dat said an incentive to use different ones more. Your right Dat carrying more than two would of been better.

Bioshock Infinite: The Siege of Columia is available for preorder. It's a board game that tells the story of Columbia from a whole different yep of game. From the site:

BioShock Infinite: the Siege of Columbia features

The Sky-line: Will your troops ride the rails to cut off enemy forces, or will they zip blindly into a trap?

Booker & Elizabeth: Unpredictable and dangerous, Booker and Elizabeth will force players to reconsider their strategies as the two cut a path through the burning city.

Powerful Leaders: Command important characters straight from the video game, such as the nihilistic Daisy Fitzroy, or the terrifying Songbird.

Tightly-balanced Resources: Will you overwhelm your enemies with superior numbers, or will you focus on controlling the conditions of the war? BioShock Infinite: the Siege Columbia forces players to make tough decisions at every turn.

Go forth and order...$59.99

I'd be willing to say this game is the game of the generation. Absolutely amazing. Story, gameplay, everything. Just beat it.

I feel like they did what they were aiming for with the combat. It's got the same old BioShock feel from the earlier games. The vigors still have a great feel. A couple nice new ones that I enjoyed but didn't find completely useful.

I have though about this more. It's weird. I don't regret playing this at all and I respect the artistic effort that went into this game. An interesting story and good characters. The combat while not revolutionary was fun.

I must be in a minority. Overall, I don't see myself playing this one again. Skylines were underutilized. Vigors while neat could of been more interesting. They felt like Bioshock 1 for the most part. The weapon selection was safe and standard and I never felt any reason to deviate from my two favorites after trying others. Take Elizabeth off your team and what are we left with?

You might hate me for saying this. The game might be polished, tried and true but the gameplay felt like an older game to me. Not necessarily a bad thing per se. Its a solid game but I think 9 or 10 is pushing it. Perhaps I was expecting too much but the game is a shorter game.

That's what opinions are for. I enjoyed the combat. Maybe it was because it was dated. I can't tell you how tired I am of the cover, shoot, cover, shoot mechanic. The vigors were a lot of fun to me. Especially when you start combining them, and when I could get the hang of it, the Skyline was a fun way to kill baddies.

I do think something better could have been done with the guns, but I liked the variety. I really liked that they rarely forced you to use a gun you didn't want to. The ammo drops were dynamic so you always got ammo for the guns you were carrying. Hell, I used the rocket launcher for a long time.

As for value? I'd say it was worth it. I got at least 14 hours in my one play through. I may not play it again, but at 4 bucks an hour it's still cheaper than going to see a movie and a lot more enjoyable than most.

He thought Bioshock Infinite was good, but not great. Get a rope!

=p

On other sites I would of been hung for post! haha
