Seems there is a bug in MS's system, because when I got my points from the rewards system, it gave them to me 6 times, and I know I'm not the only one.

Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard. The new planet is far denser than any other known so far and consists largely of carbon. Because it is so dense, scientists calculate the carbon must be crystalline, so a large part of this strange world will effectively be diamond. "The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon -- i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun," said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. Lying 4,000 light years away,…

Alright so basically, I'm interning at a senate campaign in the communications department. They asked me to analyze this video that has gone viral: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htX2usfqMEs. And honestly, I'm taking this internship to learn but I have no experience in this field at all. Does anyone know of a website with youtube stats and I can see where it has been linked or anything?

  11. Holy mother of god. Gabe Newell is rolling in sandwiches right now. I just saw figures for 2011 for what Steam delivered to PC gamers. One number stands out to me. "Meanwhile Steam doubled the amount of data it delivered in content in 2011 vs 2010, serving over 780 Petabytes of data to gamers around the world" SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY MOTHEREFFING PETABYTES!!!!! I think I'll just leave this graphic here for a bit to let that sink in.

When this eventually launches, I'm all in. A new tool under development by Oregon State computer scientists could radically alter the way that communications work on the web. Privly is a sort of manifesto-in-code, a working argument for a more private, less permanent Internet. The system we have now gives all the power to the service providers. That seemed to be necessary, but Privly shows that it is not: Users could have a lot more power without giving up social networking. Just pointing that out is a valuable contribution to the ongoing struggle to understand and come up with better ways of sharing and protecting ourselves online. "Companies like Twitter, Google, and Fa…

  20. John McAfee, the man behind the anti-virus name, says he's being bugged by Belize's Gang Suppression Unit. His home was raided by four different arms of armed Belize official organizations, including the GSU and the police. At least that is what is being reported by Channel 5 in Belize. When I say "his home," this appears to consist of nine houses and is the site of the Belize Ecological Foundation. The Belize Gang Suppression Unit's press release declares that McAfee, 66, was there with his 17-year-old girlfriend (referred to as a minor) and five security guards. The GSU reportedly says it discovered 10 firearms and 5 air rifles, all allegedly unlicensed. It also claims …
