Sony confirmed on August 8th that Game Recording will be free regardless if you are subscribed to Playstation Plus or not. The recording feature will allow you to capture up to 15 minutes of game footage. On top of the capture feature you can share the game stream with a friend, and that friend can even take over and help you with the game. This is a step in the right direction, but this is a small step forward in contrast to a large step back. At CES Kaz Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment Chief, somewhat detailed Sony's plan to unify all their products and offer premium media across the PS3, Vaio, Blu-ray, Bravia TVs, etc. A new studio called "Sony Network Entertainment" will be formed and Kaz will head this new studio. All this will use one username/password to access and purchase the content across all Sony devices. This could be big news for all those hardcore Sony fans that refuse to buy anything not branded with their logo. I'm sure more information will become available after the Sony keynote at CES. Sony's soon to be Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment Kazuo Hirai made the announcement and also confirmed that the $249.99 - $299.99 Vita will not see a price drop because of Nintendo's decision to lower the price of their Nintendo 3DS. One of the most successful casual gaming companies in the industry is bringing a new slightly edgy studio into the mix. PopCap Games announced that their new studio "4th & Battery" will be situated in Seattle and that the name comes from where the studio is located. Jason Kapalka, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at PopCap Games says to "expect weirdness" from the new label that gives their designers free range. Recently PopCap and The Red Cross teamed up for 48 hours to help raise money for the people of Japan who's lives were changed after the earthquake struck the region on Friday March 11 causing a Tsunami, several aftershocks, and partial nuclear meltdowns. During the 48 hour markdown of all of PopCap games that are available on the Apple App Store, PopCap raised more than $200,000 with 100% of revenue made from the fundraiser being donated to the International Red Cross in hopes of providing aid to those in Japan who desperately need it right now. Square Enix has announced that if you want to get your gaming mitts on an extra Thief mission dubbed Bank Heist you must pre-order the game. The content which is being developed by Eidos Montreal is set to pay homeage to a bank mission in Thief 2: The Metal Age. In the mission, players are setting out to steal The Star of Auldale within the city's Stonemarket First Bank. The Bank Heist will feature a lot of loot, secrets, and of course tight security.
