why are they just now digging around them?

I guess no one thought someone would bury 90% of the statue. I don't know. lol

They weren't exactly buried to their necks. Detritus and dirt filled into the gaps over long periods of time. Just has to do with the way they installed them.

The symbols are very interesting. Could be anything from the canoe either symbolizing the patriarchy of the person buried there or the artist, a symbolism meant to show the "great journey" of the afterlife to a symbol of the moon.... which would make the other symbols show a bit of sense as either a sort of almanac or star chart.

I like the almanac ideology, kind of like an ancient obituary. "On the first cycle of harvest moon big chief Dum Dum took his great journey. It was the summer of many rains and good crops." Lol.... I wonder if we'll ever know for sure.

I really wish they would find something cool about them. Like maybe it's really a signal to the aliens and someone will push a button on accident and the aliens will come to earth, then the government can open the MiB and I can be partnered with a sassy black man.

I want that to happen too.

Well, whatever the symbols mean, that is one HOT stone thong the statue is wearing. I'd chip away at it....Slowly....After buying it dinner of course.

I like the very last image. Buddha belly guy with his hands on his belly. lol

This is really cool, thanks for sharing!

I'm with GG on this one. Very surprising that they have just now investigated if they had bodies. Pretty cool though.

The hands look strangely elongated, no?
