January 26, 201214 yr comment_52652 So I don't usually buy stock. I'm not rich and I don't have a lot to invest. Back when Netflix had it's IPO (Initial Public Offering) on the stock market I really encouraged my father to purchase stock in the company. I think the shares were around $40? He balked at it and didn't do anything, and then a few years later used to complain when I showed him stocks were over $250. Aaaaand then came the big crash back in October. Stocks got back down to around $62 and selling due to the poor outlook, losing customers and increased pricing structure (not the mention the Qwikster debacle).I told him to buy again. I knew Netflix was about to expand to EU markets and with their current market share that there was no way it wouldn't go back up again after this scare. We both bought shares this time. I didn't have a lot of money so I could only afford about 20 shares (which was still like $1,200+). I think he bought around 100.Q4 outlook for Netflix? Much better than expected.Current share price? Around $115 +/- right now.On my 20 shares alone so far I've made around $1,000 in profit. GO NETFLIX GOOOOO!!! I could see it getting back around the $180-$200 range easily.:smug: Report

January 26, 201214 yr Author comment_52654 Its all really just about following trends and jumping on opportunites as they arise. It's super tough to gauge though, and getting into it in the first place is sometimes out of reach for most of us considering the average income in the US is around $26k/yr. Report
January 26, 201214 yr comment_52667 But you are right the average income earners don't have any expendable income to gamble on the stock market. I have a friend who her grandmother bought her stock in McDonald's when she was born... you can guess how much that has increased over 20+ years. Report
