Dumbass of the Day – Games On Demand Additions Looking to Take Your Money

Today’s Dumbass of the Day or the Dumbass Move of the Day is courtesy of Games on Demand, Xbox Live’s digital download service.  Announced today were the latest additions to the Games on Demand service and it is an example of sheer stupidity and outrageous prices.

If you have yet to get your hands on Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2, you can purchase it on Games on Demand for a whopping $59.99.  Keep in mind that this game released November 10, 2009 and can be purchased on Amazon for $35.00 and a used copy can be purchased at video game retail king GameStop for $23.00.

Also available for purchase are Aliens vs. Predator for $30.00 and Rapala Tournament Fishing for $20.00.

Microsoft you should be ashamed of yourself for putting those prices on not just these games that are available in Games on Demand, but all of them.  Most of those games don’t even deserve $5.00 added to the purchase price especially after they have been out for almost a couple years and belong at the bottom of any gaming barrel.

On behalf of gamers everywhere I issue a huge thank you for showing how much you care about us and that you have indeed proved yourself to be the Dumbass of the Day.

$60 is waaaaay too much. There is no reason it should be priced that as a digital download.

Game is still $60 on steam for some odd reason...

I love the Games on Demand service for Xbox & Playstation but they are way too expensive, so I don't even consider buying from it. Every title can be found used for much cheaper. I really wish they would drop the price to compete with the sale of used games instead of charging full price for a game that's been out for 1 or 2 years.

For the most part, I understand paying a premium for convenience. You don't need to leave your house, drive to the store, buy that used copy, and then drive back home. $60, though? Oh hell to the naw! lol

Pretty sure that game meets the credentials for a Platinum Hit. "Platinum Hits are select Xbox games that have sold over 400,000 units in the nine months after release." Judging by prices at Best Buy, Toys R Us, CompUSA and Newegg, this game still sells for a high retail price. So, maybe Xbox is doing what these other retailers are doing. Selling to a customer who will buy it at that price. We may have to save some of that award for the people still buying this older game at such a high price.
