General Discussion

For the serious or semi-serious. Just don't go off the beaten path.

    But happy birthday anyways!

Hello Everyone! This is just an update on the fan fiction Ive been talking about. Ive posted a lot of topics saying that I would be posting a new fan fiction soon, and I promise all of you there will be one soon. I haven't been slacking though, I have been working hard on a few fan fictions that I know you will enjoy. There are three games so far that I am writing fan fictions for: 1. Fallout: New Vegas 2. Mass Effect 3. Skyrim (or the Elder Scrolls in general) I want my fan fictions to stand of from the rest, so Ive been spending a lot of time on them. It isnt something you can do overnight, Ive spent so much time coming up with a story, characters, and a bunch of other…

I just finished reading the Game Informer article on this as well (very in depth). THIS is the next big Assassin's Creed I've been waiting for. New setting (American Revolution!), new character, and finally getting to whatever's going to happen in 2012. I really hope this wraps up the main arc of the AC story. Sure there can and most likely will be more, but I really don't want it to have all this craziness start happening, then have it just left to be continued in another game. The last couple AC games were still pretty good, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they were just sort of filler after the awesomeness that was AC2. I imagine one day there will be an Assas…

  4. Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon are among the ISPs preparing to implement a graduated response to piracy by July, says the music industry's chief lobbyist. The country's largest Internet service providers haven't given up on the idea of becoming copyright cops. Last July, Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon, and Time Warner Cable and other bandwidth providers announced that they had agreed to adopt policies designed to discourage customers from pirating music, movies and software over the Web. Since then, the ISPs have been very quiet about their antipiracy measures. But during a panel discussion here at a gathering of U.S. publishers, Cary Sherman, CEO of the Recording Indust…

  5. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City! Modders sorted through the game's code, and claims to have found a character model of Luke Skywalker along with details on a Hoth mission. The developer was rumoured to have been working on the game back in 2010, so this might be all that's left of their work.

  6. Don't know who I'm more upset with. The police, or the wireless providers. Glad I don't use or own a cell phone. The documents paint a picture of a surveillance free-for-all. While departments seem to have avoided warrantless access to phone calls themselves—which would likely run afoul of wiretapping laws—police departments have sought access to a wide variety of other user information. The legal standards used for cell phone tracking requests vary widely by police department. Some law enforcement agencies do not track cell phones, or have concluded that the Fourth Amendment requires them to obtain a warrant in order to track user locations. But many more reported obtai…

  7. By almost double the votes, EA Games has beat Bank of America in the Consumerist's annual Golden Poo Award for the worst company of 2012. Made me smile a little bit that this publisher who buys out wonderful game companies *cough* Bioware *cough* and turns them into crap with short deadlines and nickle and dime marketing is finally getting the press they deserve. Full article below: Whether it's on a console, a PC, a smartphone or tablet, hundreds of millions of people play video games every day. Yet most mainstream media covers the industry the same way it treats adult dodge ball leagues and cat fashion shows (both noble ventures, but neither of them multi-billion do…

Oh, I saw a teaser trailer for Fallout four. Didn't link to it because it might be fake, since it doesn't say that "war, war never changes". If it's fake, it's a pretty dam crappy fake.

  10. Famous patent troll Uniloc is suing the creators of popular indie title Minecraft (PDF), which it claims infringes a patent it holds on copy protection software. But it might need to improve its own game, as the filing misspells its target as "Mindcraft", and developer Markus "Notch" Persson has already vowed not to give in. "Step 1: Wake up. Step 2: Check email. Step 3: See we're being sued for patent infringement. Step 4: Smile," Notch wrote at Twitter. "Unfortunately for them, they're suing us over a software patent. If needed, I will throw piles of money at making sure they don't get a cent." Filed in 2001 and awarded in 2005, Uniloc's patent describes a system for "p…

  12. "The Origin platform allows malicious users to exploit local vulnerabilities or features by abusing the Origin URI handling mechanism," the paper claims. "In other words, an attacker can craft a malicious Internet link to execute malicious code remotely on a victim's system, which has Origin installed." Read on at [CVG]

  15. President Mohamed Morsi has been stripped of his power by the Egyptian army and the constitution has been suspended, General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said in a statement. Egypt's chief justice of the constitutional court will become the interim president. Morsi has moved to an "undisclosed location," a presidential aide told AP. He stated earlier that he does not recognize the "military coup," and called on Egyptians to stand against it. http://rt.com/news/army-egypt-roadmap-protest-633/ http://rt.com/news/egypt-ultimatum-expires-protest-616/

  16. CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon, apologized on Wednesday for publicly opposing marijuana legalization, saying science was clearly on the side of the drug. “I think we have been terribly and systematically misled in this country for some time, and I did part of that misleading,” he told CNN host Piers Morgan. http://youtu.be/1Tqg2y3yYR0 http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/08/07/cnns-sanjay-gupta-americans-terribly-and-systematically-misled-about-marijuana/

  17. Edward Snowden email host Lavabit shuts down rather than continuing to comply with secret US gag orders. https://lavabit.com/ My Fellow Users, I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit. After significant soul searching, I have decided to suspend operations. I wish that I could legally share with you the events that led to my decision. I cannot. I feel you deserve to know what’s going on--the first amendment is supposed to guarantee me the freedom to speak out in situations like this. Unfortunately, Congress has passed laws that say…

http://youtu.be/3fDrMal-qes CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta cuts through the smoke and travels around the world to uncover the highs and lows of cannabis. This is an important documentary, since it'll open other doctors and researcher's eyes. Cannabis has a stigma that blinds even professional people in the medical field.

  19. Elon Musk, the South African-born scientist who also oversees operations of the Tesla electric car, revealed on Monday the most information yet about his Hyperloop project, a transportation system that he previously said could move people from Los Angeles, California to San Francisco in half an hour. Details about Musk’s most elusive endeavor have been scarce until now, but on Monday he disclosed plans that could help push the project towards becoming a reality sometime soon. Musk’s concept, which came along with futuristic renderings of sleek aluminum passenger pods, the Hyperloop system would travel in an enclosed environment shielded by steel tubes, mounted on pyl…
