Could it be a factor?  maybe, is it the only reason no. There are many things that go into these events trying to pick one and just focus on that is shortsighted. There are many contributing factors and to come up with a plan to help them all would be difficult, but we dont want to do that just pick some easy targets and focus on those.

You guys should have seen it.  There was a police chase here locally after the driver murdered someone that ended with the driver being killed.  He had GTA V as his "cover photo" on Facebook and the local media went nuts with it.  This happened even before the game was released.  Come to find out that man had mental issues and was also involved in a bomb plot at his daughter's daycare center that went down the day before of course though, none of that was said until after they played the "blame GTA V" card.

Wow, sounds like a normal, complete over reaction.  However, we all know the media will do whatever it takes to blow things out of proportion.
