Oh Florida.  You never cease to amaze.

 

70 year old retired Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Wald awoke around midnight on March 10th to the sound of moaning.  Upon entering the living room he discovered 32 year old Walter Conley being quite randy with his 41 year old wife, Johnna Lynn Flowers directly on the floor of the room.  Walter also happened to be an ex-boyfriend of Johnna.

 

Rather than disturbing the carnal act, Ralph slipped into his bedroom to grab his .38 revolver, and returned.  Ralph shot the man once in the stomach and once in the head, killing him instantly. 

 

Now here's the thing.  The prosecuters attempted to portray ol' Ralph as a jealous husband who couldn't get it up, but since this is Florida the defense team was more successful in using the state's "Stand Your Ground" rule.  Apparently the idea pitched to the jury was that poor old Ralph, throughout the whole ordeal while hearing his multi-decade younger wife "moaning" loud enough to wake him up, figured that his wife was being raped by Walter and he had every right to shoot him as a perceived intruder in his home. 

 

So yeah.  Not guilty.  Well that and Johnna is happy that her husband stands by her.

 

"My husband has forgiven me 100% but there are of course some trust issues and that's something we're going to go to counseling about," while later adding, "Because my husband puts me first, he's taking me to the Waffle House."
