Assassin’s Creed 3, No Beta For You

Ubisoft Annecy’s multiplayer game director Damien Kieken confirmed the news that there will be no multiplayer beta for Assassin’s Creed 3 claiming that Ubisoft would rather spend time perfecting the game, then putting out a time consuming beta.

“To be honest, it’s something we want to do every year because we get community feedback that helps us tune the game. It is also a good reward for the community that has followed us from the beginning. But doing a beta takes a lot of time; we’d need to polish a version, submit it to the platform holders and support it when it’s out. And all the time put into the beta doesn’t go into the final game. Because we wanted to push so many things into the game, we took the hard decision to favor the final game content instead of doing a beta and we believe it will be favorable in the end…” Kieken told Xboxgamezone in a recent interview.

Disappointed that you won’t be able to take the game for a test drive, before it’s release? Relax, you can get your eager gaming mitts on Assassin’s Creed 3 on October 30th.

Eh, console beta's are little more than demo's with a fancy title. Plus the AC games haven't really ever come off as buggy or lacking in polish, then again I didn't bother playing 2.5 or 2.51...er, Brotherhood and Revelations.

For making one each year, the AC games are still really good. I was in the same boat thinking the story didn't go very far in Revelations, but both Brotherhood and Revelations showed a lot of, and concluded, Ezio's story, even if Desmond didn't go very far.

Until we get a full modern time setting, Desmond's story won't progress at the same pace as his ancestors, which is a good thing. Trying to shoehorn in full progression of Desmond would take away from the other characters. If you actually play the games and not fully dismiss them, the story and the ludicrous amount of side missions leading to stories gives Assassin's Creed one of the best running narratives in gaming today. Super excited to see where Conner's story goes and his connectivity to the modern Templar/Assassin aspects of the big picture.

On topic, I've never touched the multiplayer in the game and can only assume that the "beta" they are talking about here would be to fine tune that aspect. Not having it doesn't affect my preorder for this game at all.

I admit that the story is good, but the game play is incredibly repetitive.

Any more repetitive than Final Fantasy or most other turn based RPGs? It's all relative to the trade off you're willing to make. Me, I can forgive the shortcomings of the gameplay for the story. Not saying the gameplay is bad, it really is fun and fun repetitive isn't all that bad.

Well, for me the gameplay hasn't been as fun since the first one. To each their own though.

No denying there are plenty of games with the same repetitiveness. Maybe I'm just disinterested with most games. I get the same way with books. I'll just skip chapters until the story actually progresses.
