May 13, 201016 yr comment_8346 The same storm system has been raging on Jupiter for hundreds of years (as far as we know, that's how long we've been able to see it). Looks like mebbe some changes are finally happening in its atmosphere? Report

May 13, 201016 yr comment_8414 The color on the poles is what made me think of it. It may be missing a band, or it's just more prominent on one face of the planet. I don't think they're identical locations for both images. Report

May 14, 201016 yr comment_8436 I would be more inclined to believe this picture if you could see the great red spot in both pictures.Like PK said, I think it's two different pics from different locations. Report
May 14, 201016 yr comment_8498 Well you can't get a picture from the other side when you can't see the other side. I believe it. There were countless articles on it from NASA, Space.com, Bad Astronomy, etc. They say this happens every so often. This is just one of the first few times we've actively observed it happening. Here's one link. Not from NASA or Space.com but still. http://www.newscient...s-a-stripe.htmlThe article says we observed this happening when Pioneer 10 flew by in the 1990s. Report
May 14, 201016 yr comment_8538 Apparently, when it passed too close to the sun, it bleached that stripe right off. =]The pole's colors changed, too. Report
