June 21, 201115 yr comment_39387 Sky, turns out the guy they arrested was not even part of LulzSec. He only hosted their IRC.EDIT: The full statement from a Scotland Yard spokesman is below:Officers from the Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) have arrested a 19-year-old man in a pre-planned intelligence-led operation. The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group. The teenager was arrested on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act, and Fraud Act offences and was taken to a central London police station, where he currently remains in custody for questioning.Searches at a residential address in Wickford, Essex, following the arrest last night have led to the examination of a significant amount of material. These forensic examinations remain ongoing. The PCeU was assisted by officers from Essex Police and have been working in co-operation with the FBI.At this point, there is no confirmation that the person arrested is a member of LulzSec. However, as the statement said, he was arrested during a sting operation after attacks on intelligence agencies and international businesses. This is why the media made an immediate jump to name LulzSec, as previously mentioned, they have hit both examples (Sony, FBI, CIA, SOCA) since they arrived in the public eye towards the end of May.We’ll follow developments on this story and post more information as we get it. June 21, 201115 yr comment_39389 I can only see this hurting the average person, more than doing any perceived good by "exposing corruption". Sure corruption exists everywhere, and it would be nice if something could be done about it, but all of the DDoS attacks and network hacks hurt consumers way more than the companies. Weren't some of the hackers that attacked Sony allegedly trying to get back at them for something? In the end all it led to was the release of everyone's personal information. It only takes one malicious individual amongst the so-called "internet crusaders" hacking these companies for all that information to get out. Report
June 22, 201115 yr Author comment_39393 Even if he just owned the IRC server, they needed to snatch him up. Imagine what would happen if law enforcement didn't check every angle, or try to flip someone for other names. They'd be derelict in their duties. They wouldn't be exhausting every lead. Also, this Ryan guy was the one who got upset with Anonymous awhile back. I knew he was just a kid, since he threw a huge tantrum and tried to take everyone's IP information etc. They're just using him. They'll use any script kiddie that wants to belong to something bigger. Meanwhile, they're not smart enough to cover their tracks, and the real hackers have nice little bread crumbs, tracing back to these misguided kids. Report
June 22, 201115 yr comment_39403 Oh, by no means do I think it was a bad thing he was snatched up. I bet you they'll get a bunch of leads from him. Also, he did get caught in an Internet sting operation so he definitely is guilty of doing something. Report
