i dunno....i guess i'm on board with it. it's nice to see someone have the balls to connect culture and actions, but it's a slippery slope. what say you folks?

UPPEUPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio — City Council members voted on Monday night to stop a plan to strip a nightclub of its liquor permit as long as it changes its name and plays pop music.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Tuesday that the club, formerly known as Onyx, would change its name to Posh.

Noise complaints, arrests and two shootings have occurred at the nightclub in the past year at the nightclub, located in a shopping center off Henderson Road, 10TV News reported.

According to the newspaper, the club can only play music selected from the playlist at WNCI (97.9 FM) (wnci is a top 40 station) and cannot play music deemed "gangsta rap."R ARLINGTON, Ohio — City Council members voted on Monday night to stop a plan to strip a nightclub of its liquor permit as long as it changes its name and plays pop music.

I'm half and half on this. I think it just would have been better to withdraw liquor license based on the violence and complaints.

thing is, it's logical. it makes sense. don't want gangsters? stop playing gangster rap....

however, it feels....wrong? i think we've been bashed in the head with p.c. hogwash and dr. phil for so long, it's become programmed. i agree with it but it feels like it shouldn't happen. strangely conflicted.

plus i remember judas preist, i remember the assault on video games....but i'm not sure it's really the same thing. i mean....it's GANGSTER rap.

I mean its a private business, they have met the city laws or they wouldnt be in business, so they should be able to play what they want. I dont see what the name change will do, and I doubt the type of music will stop gangsters from coming, maybe if it was Barry Manilow.

Honestly if they wanted to make a stand they should call it a public nuisance and tell the owners they will shut it down unless they make changes to decrease the violence and complaints and protect the public and patrons. But it should be the owners decision of how to change their business, if they dont then shut them down.

To me it sounds more like "well we need to do something" and creating a law.

Seems like someone's freedoms got eroded. If it were in a specific city zone, which only allowed for certain things, maybe.

They've tried the same thing in Oakland. Tried to make these places appear higher class, but it was still in a poor neighborhood. Just because you dress it up, doesn't mean it automatically changes.

the gangsters wouldn't go there any more. trust me. i've seen it happen around here before.

I'm sorry but if it's such a nuisance then use the appropriate channels to meet out the correct fines and penalties. Revoke the license. This is a dog and pony show.

If the owners don't take responsibility for their establishment then by all means drop the hammer. Freedom of choice. Not consequence.

yeah, it seems shady that the city council has authority to do that. that's why i said it was a slipery slope. either they meet the criteria for a license or they don't. i don't like grey areas in the law.

i guess the decision is fine, but the wrong people made it. you're right. the government shouldn't be able to say they have to play music from a local raio station.

Seems weird and kinda wrong alright.

Never heard of anything like this happening before.
