The fake navy seal story.

Featured Replies

I just saw a brief glimpse of the story on cnn about the guy that claims he was part if the srals who took out osama, and apparently he was lieing. Now they had him on asking him qurstiond on why he lies basically making him look like a douche. Okay here is what gets under my skin shouldnt the media be at fault since they ran the story in the first place? I mean seriously why is this guy even on he was homeless on 911 not in anapolis. The media hears this guy is a seal and automatically prints it as truth THEN find out he is a fraud and berade him. Its just *** backwards to me. If I was that guy I would just laugh because the morons bought it. It was just one of those obvious things to me and to me it was making Anderson Copper look like a douche. Just my opinion.

Agreed. Navy Seals are very selfless and I doubt any member who participated in the mission would choose to go out of their way to talk about the mission.

They know when they run these things that they are most likely false but in an age of instant media, people want new news all the time.

They also want interesting news not news about who won the local bingo.

So modern media throws out the standards, somewhat in an attempt to keep up with online media and assumes everything is fact with the logic that they can run retractions later or get another story on it exposing it as false as in this case.

In short, there are no more journalistic standards pretty much anywhere. It is now a lost art.
