L.A Noire Will Contain 3 Discs

Featured Replies

"Rockstar has so much to include in L.A. Noire, releasing later this month, that it couldn't fit the game on a single DVD. Or two. Rockstar has told ****** that its upcoming detective thriller will ship on three discs for Xbox 360 -- or a single Blu-ray, in the case of the PlayStation 3 version. Besides inciting the rage of fanboys arguing about the inconvenience of swapping discs and mandatory game installs (I'm not bothered by switching a disc a few times throughout the course of a lengthy game, myself), it's interesting because Rockstar has previously managed to squeeze its sizable games -- Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption, for instance -- onto a single disc. You can blame the lifelike faces L.A. Noire is striving for for that.

"L.A. Noire was always going to be a massive game, from the size and detail of the world to the length of the cases, and of course, the sheer amount of MotionScan data required for the faces of over 400 actors in-game," explained Rockstar's Jeronimo Barrera. "To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs."

Three discs might sound like a lot, but it's still not as many as Lost Odyssey's four. Hopefully that means one of the discs won't be sliding around inside the game case in a paper sleeve, as was the case with Mistwalker's RPG.

Rockstar revealed at the Tribeca Film Festival last month that it would cater to casual gamers by offering the ability to skip action sequences. The option will first require players to fail several times before presenting itself."

Wow. Might be the first time the number of discs will actually be swaying which console I purchase a game for. Since it's single player the single disc gives the PS3 the advantage to me. Been looking forward to this game, and if it doesn't release for PC I'll probably grab it on PS3.

You wont be playing it online on the 17th...:banghead:

Just ordered my copy from Amazon. I got a DLC suit that raises your melee abilities and $15 in credit on my next Amazon purchase. Wonder what that will be??? Hmmm.

Multiplayer has been confirmed for this?

Singleplayer only. Quote from R*:

"There will be no multiplayer component of L.A. Noire – the combination of innovative technology and unique gameplay that allow you to solve crimes through interrogations and investigation is really one that’s geared entirely for a single-player experience. Trust us that this is a game unlike any you’ve played before – very different not only for us here at Rockstar but for videogames as a medium. Bolting on generic multiplayer on top of that would not make much sense, or be a good use of our time or development budget! Hope this clears up any confusion. We thought this would be spelt out in some of last week's previews, but as it wasn't, we felt we should clarify ourselves."

Sony fanyboys are eating up the fact that LA Noire is going to fit on just 1 disk for the PS3. I'll admit that's cool, but I still bought the 360 version.

I'm no fanboy, but I probably will grab this for PS3 for the ease of one disc. Unless there is some advantage to the 360 I don't know about.

Exercise. lol.
