I actually got a SOCOM (Slant Six is making it) feel from watching the trailer like it reminded me of multiplayer mixed with Left 4 Dead.

I'm iffy about it. SOCOM Confrontation blew balls for me when we had the PS3 so I don't know about Slant Six making it. Have to wait and see I guess. Other than that....glad to see Leon :)

Yeah, I totally saw that SOCOM vibe going on in the trailer. I really don't know what to think yet, though I'm REALLY glad we are back to zombies rather than people with parasites, even if this is just a spin off.

It is impossible to beat this game ! RE5

Sweet Left 4 Dead 3, oh wait?.?. Personally I'm anticipating Resident Evil: Revival Selection. It's got RE4 and my favorite of the series Code: Veronica.

It is impossible to beat this game ! RE5

I'm confused? Are you saying that it's impossible to beat RE5? Like in terms of quality? I honestly thought it was one of the weaker entries in the series. There was nothing really Resident Evil-ish about it in my opinion. I really disliked the game. It was just a run & gun shooter to me. :(

Here's my review of RE5 from back at the Anti-Troll Committee:

The Hook

Capcom introduces online co-op gameplay to the Resident Evil series, but die-hard series fans will walk away disappointed from this newest entry

Game Design

It's been nearly four whole years since the last Resident Evil crept it's way into the dark hearts of zombie killers and virus afficionados, but the long wait hasn't exactly been a fruitful one. Jun Takeuchi has taken over the reigns to Capcom's survival-horror enterprise and in my own personal opinion has completely thrown out the window everything that made the Resident Evil series what it is.

Previous RE games forced the player to think, conserve ammo, solve puzzles and also involved plenty of "fetch quests" that had players backtracking through areas. The series always has pitted the protagonist in nigh-impossible situations, battling against zombies who want to eat your brains.

So what did Mr. Takeuchi decide to do? He turned Resident Evil into the ******* child of Gears of War and Army of Two, removed all survival aspects and vomited out on unsuspecting fans a game that is more akin to an action shoot-em-up.

Completely linear level design - Check

Interesting storyline ditched in favor of upgrading weapons ad nauseum - Check

Essentially making the game the equivalent of "Resident Evil - For Dummies" - Check

When will developers learn to not rape every series of games by churning out sequels to try to cater to new audiences? (Take a look at the shambled enterprise that used to be known as Sonic the Hedgehog). What's next? Resident Evil Kart Racing?

But I digress, let's get on to the Game Play discussion.

Yup it LOOKS like Resident Evil, but don't let that fool you

Game Play

So the first and most obvious gameplay feature that needs to be mentioned is the addition of Co-Op gameplay. The idea has somewhat been done before in a previous Resident Evil title, but your partner in that game was not the longbow-toting uber-african woman that appears in RE5. While I'm not adverse to the addition of another member to your team (or should I say ammo-whoring AI?), the whole thing just feels out of place. You don't have to worry so much about keeping your teammate alive (Hellooooo!!!?!? SURVIVAL is the key word here people!!!) when they're just as well equipped as you are. Capcom also touts the game's ability for "drop-in/drop-out" co-op but the problem is that you don't immediately join the game and have to wait for the other person to die or reach the next checkpoint (which could be quite a while!).

Capcom also adds some new features such as "partner abilities" like helping each other climb ladders or jump gaps *cough*Army of Two rip-off*cough*, as well as the ability to take cover behind certain objects.

There is also no longer a Merchant that can only be accessed periodically throughout the game. Instead Capcom has allowed players to visit a magical store in between every single chapter subsection and even when you die which really dumbs down the difficulty and lets players stock up on healing items whenever they want.

The controls should also be mentioned because your character feels much slower to control compared to RE4 and as many people have already found out, no, you cannot move and aim your gun at the same time.

Also, the minigame “The Mercenaries” makes a return but not much has really changed since RE4 and it’s just a recycled feature to try to add more gameplay.

Which plate goes where on the door lock? Doesn't matter, just hit the X button...

Tips & Tricks

Pick up everything. Even if you don't need that ammo you can always sell it to get needed cash

Don't bother upgrading any other weapons other than the base weapon of each type (Ithaca SG, S75 rifle, etc) Fully upgrading the base weapon will unlock that class's superweapon for purchase

Red+Green herbs are worth more to sell than First Aid sprays, so stockpile those for extra loot

Press the B button if you have a zombie trying to eat your brains and your partner will come to help you

If you have the Infinite Rocket Launcher, don't shoot it at your feet

Reaction

A new coat of paint and the addition of some new features do not make a good game, especially when you literally take out 5 things for every 1 feature you add. This game's single-player campaign is so short it can easily be beaten in one day, and the linearness of the whole game is literally a slap in the face to die-hard series fans. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks great and sounds great, but style does not equate into substance and quality these days.

There is one, count it.... ONE "puzzle" in the WHOLE GAME and it's not even an interesting or hard one. It's a puzzle with mirrors and a beam of light that we've seen in a bajillion other games already.

There is no backtracking and the "fetch quests" don't even require any thought, where previous RE entries required you to add the items in a specific order, etc. Hell, even all of the “treasures” in the game basically are worthless. Nothing to inspect, no clues to find hidden on the back of an emblem, and all those little jewels mean nothing if I don’t have a cool treasure crown that is in need of some bling so it’s worth to sell more at the store.

Granted there is a lot of replay value in terms of co-op play and the ability to purchase new weapons and upgrade them, but the total package fails to deliver a title worthy of the Resident Evil moniker. Hell, there’s not even a mansion in the whole game. The exclusion of that one thing is blasphemy alone!

I will say this once, and once only….. STOP *** WITH MY GAMES CAPCOM!! I don’t know how or why you decided to let Mr. Takeuchi bastardize Resident Evil into a shoot-em-up action game with absolutely no depth whatsoever, but I assure you that I won’t be the first, or last, to tell you that you’ve failed your fanbase. Couple this with the blatant $5 DLC ass-raping of your consumers by lying to us about some shitty multiplayer mode that you just couldn’t include with release and you’ve got yourself one fully paid for ticket on the S.S. Failboat.

Shame on you Capcom…. Shame.

CoyAndChris gives this title a 6.5 out of 10

Wow, a 6.5 out of 10?! The game was nowhere close to the best in the series, hell it could have been sold as anything other than a Resident Evil title, but it wasn't a bad game. RE coup de grace was RE: Code Veronica, 4 was great, but lacked the classic scare factor and story of the originals. 5 was 4 without the puzzles and a better more focused gameplay mechanic. Resident Evil games deserving of a 6.5 or lower are the Outbreak spin offs, Nemesis, and Survivor. Those games are the absolute worst in the series.

It's kind of like saying Mario World 2 sucked, because Mario Bros. was so great. Or Final Fantasy 8, 9 and 13 are crap because 7 is arguably the best RPG of all time. I'm die hard RE fan and think the first 2 and Code: Veronica are the best games in the survival horror genre, but RE5 was a well worthy successor to the ground work laid by the games that proceeded it.

I'm confused? Are you saying that it's impossible to beat RE5? Like in terms of quality? I honestly thought it was one of the weaker entries in the series. There was nothing really Resident Evil-ish about it in my opinion. I really disliked the game. It was just a run & gun shooter to me. :(

CoyAndChris gives this title a 6.5 out of 10

Also, all the faults you had with the game, I had aswell. It wasn't the Resident Evil I grew to love as a kid, I just didn't think it was a game killer.

Damn straight I gave it a 6.5 out of 10. Remember, it's on a scale of 1-10. The other major sites basically operate on a scale of 7-10 (anything around a 7 is considered "really bad" now-a-days). This is why we at Gamercide no longer asign actual scores to a game. It's a worthless number in the long run and you should just read what I wrote about the game to get my impression.

So, for me to give it a 6.5 out of 10 to me means it was "a little better than average". I really disliked the game. I felt it was a major departure from the true intent of the original RE games, i.e. "Survival Horror". The game is simply a run and gun action adventure. No puzzles. No surviving. No exploration. Nothing. It was just a linear run-from-one-checkpoint-to-the-next disaster. I hated how broken up it seemed, with the checkpoints and chapters. Of course, my opinion is just that, opinion. :)

Yeah, I guess you're right about review scores. It's obvious that gamers (myself included) are now bred to look at a score like a 6 or 7 and think that game is pure crap. I can now better understand the score you gave it. And at least you stick by your guns, you said you disliked the game today just the same as you said in your review. And I can totally respect that. I thought the game was decent, nothing mind blowing.

And no, while it wasn't necessarily a "game-killer", they shouldn't have assigned it a number as a continuation in the series. It was a departure. It's like how they have Resident Evil: Mercenaries which is more of a multiplayer entry. It's seperate. It's not canon to the series.

I just didn't like the style of the game. I have enough run & gun shooters. I wanted survival horror. So in that regard Deadly Premonition >>>>> Resident Evil 5.

On a side note I REALLY think they could re-make or make another game similar to Outbreak. Outbreak was ambitious. It had potential. The problem was that online gameplay wasn't as cohesive as it is now. They could make another RE like Outbreak and I bet it would be killer on the 360 or PS3.

After reading the article about this in the latest Xbox magazine or Gamepro...one of the two...they can stick this game where the sun doesn't shine. Why in the hell do I want to a team based RE shooter and play as Umbrella people? LAME-SAUCE!

Oh and you can change the events in the series depending on how you play it, like kill Leon......Again LAME!!!

Yeah, I didn't think it should have been a numbered sequal at all. But, then again Capcom gave Nemesis number status and Code: Veronica was considered to be a spin off. Granted after 5, I don't have high expectations for the series future, that much is for certain.

I could see something like that being pretty cool on Kinect or Move. Something I'm sure alot of older Kinect and Move owners would appreciate.

And to add to my above rant, the people that are on your team look ridiculous and one of them has a cloaking option. LAME!

Well, I guess RE5 soured me enough that just having Zombies again is good enough for me, and that it's a spin off, since it will play drastically different.
