March 25, 201115 yr comment_33532 With data using the NPD Group that dates back to 1995, CNBC has made a list of the top ten games of this generation. The list that will probably surprise you left out fan favorite series Halo and GTA and instead includes a couple Guitar Hero’s, Wii games, and Call of Duty.Guitar Hero 3: Legends of RockCall of Duty: Black OpsWii FitCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Rock BandWii Play (with Wii Remote)Guitar Hero: World TourWii Fit PlusMario Kart (with wheel)Call of Duty 4: Modern WarfareAgree or disagree with the list that is surprisingly missing a few main stream titles? March 25, 201115 yr comment_33538 What needs to be taken into account here is that this list is compiled based off the gross total money each game has generated, not per unit sales. Unfortunately the list is highly skewed for a number of reasons, which I will add in next to each title below.Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock - Sold as a BUNDLE game. The game itself did not cost $60 and many of these titles were sold with guitars as a package. This inflates the total generated money by the game.Call of Duty: Black Ops - This title is cross-platform and is available on more than one console, which affects the gross money collected.Wii Fit - Nintendo's Wii is (was) incredibly successful. Further inflating the gross money collected, Wii Fit is a bundle package with the balance board.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Again, cross title platform which inflates money generated by this game.Rock Band - A HUGE bundle package. A full band game. When it first came out the whole bundle was what, like $200? So for every 1 bundle sold that would be equivalent to selling 3+ normally priced titles.Wii Play (with Wii Remote) - Again. Successful Wii is successful. Guitar Hero: World Tour - Widely regarded as a tacky competitor to Rock Band, this is also a bundle package in which many people bought the package. See note for Rock Band.Wii Fit Plus - Godd.amnit Nintendo. Why won't you die?Mario Kart (with wheel) - It's Mario Kart. You don't f.uck with the blue shell.Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Cross platform title. Nuff said. One of the biggest reasons that Halo didn't make the list is because it's a console exclusive. If you look above, really the ONLY console exclusive games are from Nintendo's console which per unit sold more than any other console on the market. Report
March 25, 201115 yr comment_33545 I somewhat agree with this list. While it is missing a few HUGE games, it does show in what direction this industry is going. It's becoming more and more mainstream. Report
March 25, 201115 yr comment_33549 This part is pretty crazy. Among standalone games, the inflation-adjusted winner appears to be "Super Mario Bros. 3" – which sold 18 million copies on the NES. The game carried an original price of $50. When total sales are converted to today's dollars, they reach $1.7 billion. No other title comes close. Report
