Survival Horror

Featured Replies

So i have been really wanting to get Dead space. Looks like a cool game and i love to get games like a week before their sequels come out so i dont have to wait. BUT i think this game will scare the **** out of me. So i bought both condemned games to kinda get into the genre. I dont enjoy being freaked out but i love the way survival horror games usually play. i.e. rarely ammo, tough bosses, and entertaining stories. So my question is, how does dead space stack up to other games in the genre. Alan wake made me laugh more then jump, but condemned is creepy...

Condemned is much scarier than Dead Space. Dead Space is pretty scary at first, when you're trying to figure out what's going on and you have a select set of weapons. After a while though, the game gets predictable and you become overpowered. It kind of falls more into an action shooter with horror elements after you fight a certain boss. As far as the ammo, well, if you sell all your guns, you can just upgrade the plasma cutter and have ridiculous amounts of ammo. Granted, this was based on my personal experience. Dead Space isn't bad, but it's not that scary. If you have a decent PC or laptop, try Amnesia instead. You have no weapons in that game, and all you can do is hide from the enemies (whenever they appear, which can be pretty random sometimes). It's more about solving puzzles, but it's also a great survival horror game.

Yea it's pretty scary.

Echo Night Beyond was the first survival horror ive played, i picked it up in a PS2 bargain bin, you lose by getting so scared your heart rate goes through the roof and gives out, scariest game ive played so far, although i havent played amnesia yet.

I got dead space for Halloween and it didnt disapoint, it will make you jump for sure and give you a good creepy feeling, I recommend it.

Action shooter i can deal with....RE5 was a blast. Im definitely going to pick up dead space. Amazon has it listed for 9.99.. And when i started researching this stuff I seen alot of people raving about amnesia...the youtube vids looked incredibly intense.

To this day, one of the creepiest games I've played was the Condemned series. That mannequin warehouse is FUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!

Another pretty awesome game, even though it was for N64, was Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Reqiuem. That game I will never forget, especially because of the "sanity meter". So cool!

Believe it or not, Deadly Premonition has some tense moments but the game can be a little unintentionally campy. Great game for the budget price. :)

He (Guns Gunz Guns) hears me talking enough about Eternal Darkness at home, lol. I think he said he saw in an issue of Game Informer that they are remaking it or it was rumored...one of the two.
