There aren’t many games these days that can boast a history spanning 26 years and more than 30 seperate releases across multiple platforms. The Castlevania series is one of them.

Konami has continually reinvented the gameplay of the Castlevania series over the years from the simple two buttons mechanics of the brutally difficult original side scrolling 1986 title. Some highlights include RPG-Lite entries such as Simons Quest and Symphony of the Night, slick touchscreen mechanics from the Nintendo DS titles like Portrait of Ruin, and even full 3D exploration in Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. No long running game series like Castlevania is exempt from their share of horrible entries however, with titles like Castlevania 64 and Castlevania: Judgement sticking out like sore thumbs. So where could Konami possibly go for their 2010 next-gen entry? Sticking with their idea of reinvention, Konami turned to Mercury Steam and the amazing Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear fame to completely reboot the series with a whole new storyline.
