Dave Brockie, lead vocalist for Gwar, aka Oderus Urungus, found dead at age 50

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 12:19:37 +0000

Sad times indeed. Dave Brockie was found dead by fellow roommates within his residence yesterday. Dave was 50 years old at the time, and no cause of death is yet known at this time.

Gwar was a legendary metal band, full of humor and even political messages. Their crazy style of outrageousness and insane costumes, combined with killer music, will never escape my memory.

Rest in peace Dave.

Name some bands!

Sat, 01 Mar 2014 03:36:20 +0000

Okay guys, it's simple, just name off some bands you like. Try to keep them fairly main stream, not some local, or unheard of indie band. I know it's strange but I just need an idea of what people like to listen to.

Dillon Hodges - Full Album Stream

Mon, 13 May 2013 17:22:18 +0000

http://www.americansongwriter.com/2013/05/full-album-stream-dillon-hodges-rumspringa/

We’re excited to bring you Rumspringa, the debut album from promising young folk artist and champion flat-picker Dillon Hodges.

“Rumspringa is an album made up of fictional stories and characters,” Hodges tells American Songwriter. “However, I have learned it is nearly impossible for me to write a song without leaving a reflection of myself between the lines. The title of the record may actually be the most revealing. For the Amish, Rumspringa is a period of time during adolescence where a youth can leave the community and experience the outside world. For me, when I made this record and left my home in Alabama to relocate to Nashville, marry my wife, and hit the road all around the same time, I felt like I was seeing the outside world for the first time.

“Though I grew up as a flatpicking guitarist,” he adds, “I wanted this record to be crafted around a specific group of songs that promoted lyric and arrangement. My roots in old-time music are still visible, but have been featured in a way that allows the music to speak.”

The record drops tomorrow via Cork Industries.

GO GO GO!!!

And they just got back together too :( Half of "Kriss Kross" dead of apparent overdose

Thu, 02 May 2013 13:13:50 +0000

Rapper Chris Kelly, the "Mac Daddy" to to Chris Smith's "Daddy Mac", was pronounced dead yesterday evening from an apparent drug overdose. He was 34 years old. Kriss Kross was a early 90's duo famous for wearing the clothes backwards.

They reunited earlier this year to perform and it's kind of sad because when I was younger (I was like 12 when "Jump" came out) I totally remember jamming out to their music. My brothers and sisters even used to tease me by singing "Warm it up" and I would just respond "I'm about to!"

Sad that drugs takes another young life.

Saw two legendary punk rock icons live this weekend!

Mon, 18 Mar 2013 15:00:35 +0000

Saturday night in my town, much to my surprise, there was a concert. Three people were scheduled to perform and unfortunately one of them, Tommy Ramone (yes, of the Ramones), has liver problems and had to cancel. The other two were still there.

Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols!!! And Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls!

Holy crap it was a great time. So many great songs along with lots of rambling and stories, culminating with a joint perfomance by the two, made an incredible night. Here are a couple pictures I took.

Sylvain Sylvain

Glen Matlock

I was super sad I didn't get to see Tommy, as it would have most likely been my only chance to see one of the original Ramones, but the show was still epic.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!
