IGN claims that there is a rumor running around the internet that the next version of Kinect, Kinect 2 may have it's very own voice that interacts with several people including welcoming a new individual who just entered into a room to asking a person to identify himself or herself.

Another aspect of the Kinect 2 that is still hanging out in the "rumor/tried to to be explained, but miserably failed stage" is whether or not the Kinect will always be viewing and hearing what you do which has become a concern of many gamers in regards to their privacy. Harvey Eagle; Microsoft's UK Marketing Director stated, "Kinect does require to be connected to Xbox One in all cases, yes". However Microsoft quickly retracted that statement and said, "It is not always watching or always listening... you can turn the system completely off. This would use no power and turn everything off. We’ll share more details about how it all works later." Those details are expected to be made known at this year's E3.

The amazingly creepy Kinect 2 sensor will have a 1080p camera and a motion control camera that captures 2 gigabits of data per second.

One of those conflicting reports that Harrison was quick to dispel was the report that the Xbox One will require a constant connection to the internet.

"Some bits of the system will work offline. I think the key point to make is that Xbox One requires an internet connection, but it does not need to be connected all the time..."

Just to repeat that, THE XBOX ONE DOES NOT REQUIRE A CONSTANT INTERNET CONNECTION MMMKAY?

Another rumor that Harrison attempted to clear up was used games and digital permissions.

"So, think about how you use a disc that you own of an Xbox 360 game. If I buy the disc from a store, I use that disc in my machine, I can give that disc to my son and he can play it on his 360 in his room. We both can't play at the same time, but the disc is the key to playing. I can go round to your house and give you that disc and you can play on that game as well. What we're doing with the digital permissions that we have for Xbox One is no different to that. If I am playing on that disc, which is installed to the hard drive on my Xbox One, everybody in my household who has permission to use my Xbox One can use that piece of content. [so] I can give that piece of content to my son and he can play it on the same system."

Take note; no extra fees if you play it on the same system. Harrison went on to explain what happens if you go to a friend's house and take a game disc with you that you own.

"I can come to your house and I can put the disc into your machine and I can sign in as me and we can play the game. The bits are on your hard drive. At the end of the play session, when I take my disc home - or even if I leave it with you - if you want to continue to play that game [on your profile] then you have to pay for it. The bits are already on your hard drive, so it's just a question of going to our [online] store and buying the game, and then it's instantly available to play. The bits that are on the disc, I can give to anybody else, but if we both want to play it at the same time, we both have to own it. That's no different to how discs operate today."

Does everyone understand now? If you are a one console family or person, you are fine. However if you are a multiple console family and bounce game discs around, you will need to either a.) buy multiple discs if you game together or b.) purchase the game through whatever Microsoft has in store which will probably be announced at E3, but it sounds like they partnered with Gamestop, Amazon, or some other gaming retail giant in order to do this type of service for instant gaming access.

via Eurogamer

Precursor Games announced that they are developing Shadow of the Eternals, the spiritual successor to Silicon Knights' 2002 Gamecube cult hit Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

Shadow of the Eternals will be released in episodic format for the Wii U and PC only for a total of 12 episodes with each episode having about 2-4 hours of gameplay. Throughout the 12 episodes, players will follow the story of Detective Paul Becker who is investigating one of the bloodiest gang massacres in the history of the state of Louisiana where there are only two survivors. These two survivors will help Detective Paul Becker uncover the story behind the "Eternals" and span 2,500 years of history in Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States, much like Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem which also hopped through out history while uncovering the secrets of the Ancients. Also like in Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, players will see the return of the famed sanity effects that cause disturbances unlike any game I have ever played, even modern day titles.

According to the official site for Shadow of the Eternals, details on the digital distribution of the 12 episodes will be announced at a later date, however they stated under the "Project Faq's" that they do plan to release the episodes sometime in the third quarter of 2014.

This simply named trophy caused a media backlash from reviewers including Adam Sessler who called the trophy "misogynistic" meaning characterized by a hatred of women, during his own review.

"This gut punch of misogyny irredeemably sours this game and it's shocking that such a talented developer would traffic in such a contemptible attitude.
"I’ve had a bad time working with Microsoft in the past. Maybe not super bad, but a moderately bad time in terms of business relationships. Other developers who are friends of mine have had a horrible time, so the idea of signing up again with Microsoft isn’t something I’d have ruled out, but there’s a certain amount of dread I have about doing that again. I don’t have that with Sony. Who knows, maybe it’ll turn out to be just as bad at the end! But I don’t think so. The people we’re talking to on a daily basis there are just really good people, and we’re happy to work with them. We’ll see how it goes."

Blow went on further to say that the next Xbox "is not strictly about games", that it is not the place to put a highest performing version of his game on, and that it just wasn't the "best choice". Ouch!

"Yeah, there were a lot of reasons why it was a good choice, Some were technical – we haven’t officially been disclosed on Microsoft’s next console, but we do see the same leaks as everyone else has, and they seem plausible. To me they talk about a console that is not strictly about games. It’s trying to be the centre of the living room device, which is fine and maybe it’s the right thing for Microsoft to do, business-wise. I don’t know; I actually don’t think it is, but they’ve certainly thought about it more than me! As a place to put the best, highest performing version of our game on, it doesn’t seem as good a choice.”

The Witness is a colorful 3D puzzle game set on an island and is labeled for release in 2013.

The report being pushed around the internet began on online gaming news website, VideoGamer.com where they claimed a credible source spoke directly to them stating that Dead Space 4 was in pre-production with Visceral Games' Montreal. However, plans changed after EA made a visit to the small studio this past February and it was announced that pre-production on Dead Space 4 was to be stopped. To further complicate matters, EA closed Visceral Games' Montreal later in February on February 21st due to "restructuring".

EA's Peter Moore fired back at this report on GamesIndustry, calling the report "shoddy website journalism".

"Standard, shoddy website journalism recipe, born out of a desperate need to increase click-thru rates to support advertising revenue. Fabricate a story using an 'unnamed source,' post it first thing in the morning, add the letters 'EA' to the story (oh, and link it to micro-transactions - always a fan favourite) and then stand back and enjoy the vitriol which you turn into revenue. Rinse and repeat...

My comments were fairly and squarely aimed at Videogamer. My issue is not the rejection of community feedback (we get that in bucketloads all day long and we learn from it in real time), rather it was the fabrication of a story in order to generate controversy and ultimately readership."

VideoGamer.com is standing by their source and their report stating that EA had prior knowledge of their report going live and that EA UK even asked for them to wait an extra day before posting the report so that they could come up with a proper response with EA here stateside. EA released the usual "we do not comment on rumor or speculation". However, once the report went live, EA changed their minds and sent a message to GameSpot saying that the report was "patently false". According to Eurogamer, VideoGamer checked with EA UK to see what had happened and as it would turn out EA's Coporate Communications Teams sent the "patently false" statements out upon media request.

VideoGamer.com has released their own statement since the backlash.

"VideoGamer.com would never publish information from a source whose identity could not be verified, or that we do not believe to be accurate. We carried out internal checks to verify the validity of the comments made by our source - and while we have a duty of care to protect their identity - we stand by the comments made in the original story.

We would also like to reiterate that we ran the story in good faith, taking the necessary steps with both EA and our source to ensure that the story was as accurate, fair, and well-represented as possible.

We find it perplexing as to why EA changed its stance on its decision not to comment on rumours and speculation, especially given the opportunities that the publisher had to clarify the situation before and after VideoGamer.com published the story. We firmly deny any accusations of fabrication on our part."

Interestingly enough, despite EA calling the report false there has yet to be one confirmed response that the Dead Space series has not been cancelled.

It's time for The Annual Gamercide Giveaway! I took into consideration feedback from how past giveaways have been run and I think I came up with something this year that will please everyone.

Participants

In order to participate you have to be a member of the forums here at Gamercide, not just a contributor or viewer of our online streaming. Register

You must send me a PM here or an email to siren@gamercide.org with your Gamercide name and what systems you own; consoles, handhelds, and if your PC is capable of handling small or large games.

All participants must have their names into me by December 21st. Any names received after that will not count.

From December 31st until January 2nd there will be a preview post of the prizes, except for the Grand Prize and the Gamercide Staff Bundle.
