Even though this will do you absolutely no good until you physcially have a copy of Modern Warfare 3 inserted into your Xbox 360, Microsoft decided to allow you to download the free Call of Duty Elite service today via the Xbox Live Marketplace. Downloading the service and registering now will allow you to have a whopping two hours of double XP during the multiplayer.

The Elite service comes with your choosing of either a free account or a $49.99 a year pay to use account. Fans of GTA: San Andreas will be excited to hear that the fifth numbered installment of the series is returning to Los Santos. It is unclear whether San Fierro and Las Venturas are in the game as well, but some of the countryside appears to be there, with mountains to climb and do crazy things off of.

If you look closely you can spot several things added since GTA IV: Sea-doos, semi trucks with trailers, blimps, and even airplanes and fighter jets. That's right, airplanes appear to be returning. Fans will still undoubtedly have many questions such as: whether the planes will be flyable, how much of the San Andreas area the game will take place in, how the multiplayer and Free Roam will be, and when the release date is.

One thing is certain. The wait will be agonizing for this next epic Rockstar game.

If not, I can't say I blame you. I love insanely difficult games, however this is one I will not touch out of respect for my controller to ensure that it stays in one piece. If you have yet to try it, because you are debating on whether or not to torture yourself through grueling gameplay, then you will be happy to know that Namco has ensured that just about every gamer gets to play Dark Souls by making sure to ship 1.5 million units worldwide. So wait on my fellow gamers.

Out of the those 1.5 million worldwide units, those of us here in the United States have received the majority of the shipment at 670,000 units. Compared to the amount that Asia received, 40,000, that is a pretty beefy number. Europe received 470,000 and Japan received 370,000 units where the game was published exclusively on the Playstation 3.

via Andriasang

Once it gets low enough camera angles will change, the volume of the game goes up and down, and other random things start to happen that really do screw with your mind. Ghosts and demon fighting is bad enough, but when a game starts screwing with your mind things can get downright creepy. This one needs a direct sequel or HD remake soon."

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly

"Mio and Mayu don't have magical powers or weapons to battle the evil spirits in the village they stumble in to, the only way to fight the spirits is to use your trusty camera. There's nothing like seeing a spirit, whipping out your camera, and having a ghost show up right in your camera lens. Atmosphere, game play, graphics...EVERYTHING about this game is creepy. With 4 possible endings, (One added to the Xbox remake) things don't turn out well, every. Every game in the series is great, but this one stands out to me the most."

PeeKnuckle - Gamercide Editor and Gnome

The Suffering

"It's part spooky creatures out to get you and part psychological brain twister. I recall one part of the game real vividly that really got to me; I reached a control room that allowed you to use the CCTV's that are setup around the jail you're locked down in. As I'm switching from camera to camera, I come across the one that is in the room I'm in. It's perspective is from behind me about 10 feet. It shows a creature walking up to my back from behind and it's definitely going to attack me. So, you frantically exit the camera mode to turn around.

The creatures in the game are totally jacked up, too. From monsters with blades for limbs, to ones seemingly made from racks of guns and even ones with hypodermic needles for fingers. It probably did not help that I was a young pup either. I will never forget when he ran down the hall towards the beginning of the game and those dogs jumped through the glass. I shrieked, well like a little girl. Then when it was my turn to take over the controller and help solve the puzzles, I was too afraid to go through doors, because I always thought the dogs were going to come get me."

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

"This game was not scary as in monster scary, it was mind freakish scary. That game is a classic and needs to be remade or put on the Xbox Live Arcade."

Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams

"Pyramid Head and deranged nurses. In order to get Diablo 3 for free you must purchase their new annual pass and adhere to a few other minor commitments to Blizzard.

The World of Warcraft annual pass can be paid in monthly installements just like a month to month subscription however where it differs is that you get Diablo 3 for free, the in game mount Tyrael's Charger, and guaranteed access into World of Warcraft expansion beta. If you are jumping for joy right about now, slow down there. You must have an account that is in good standing and created before October 18th and also be willing to commit to a one year subscription without unsubscribing. If you do not complete the one year term, you will lose everything that comes with the limited time only WoW annual pass. That means, Diablo 3 for those of you that need that spelled out. After your 12 month subscription is over and if you choose to cancel after that time period, you still get to keep Diablo 3.

Also announced on the Diablo 3 end of the spectrum is the CE edition that comes with:

4 GB USB drive that is a replica of a soulstone and a Diablo skull base

Full versions of Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction

Behind the scenes Blu-Ray/DVD Set

208 page art book

Diablo 3 soundtrack

Exclusive in game content

Blizzard did not comment on release date or price.

via Techspot, Blizzard, and Blizzard Annual Pass Info

EA has announced that Battlefield 3 will have a day one update that gamers will be required to install in order to play the game and that all media reviews of the shooter be held off until a week after it's release. EA has also added that Xbox 360 gamers will have to download the game to their hard drive in order to see the graphics at their best representation. What is EA's reasoning behind the day one update? DICE are perfectionists of course!

“DICE are perfectionists — they will not stop polishing the game until it is in your hands” claimed EA.

Why yes, gamers across the board will accept that giberish especially after the horrible, cheat filled beta preview for Battlefield 3 which happens to be less than a week away from it's launch. Not too shabby considering that the content will add anywhere between two to four hours of gameplay and increase the game's total content to 30%. It Came From Outer Space will also feature new buildings, characters, and of course a new kingdom for you to build up your little green alien, friendly town.

But how would you like to play as him against some of the whackier characters to come out of a Japanese fighting game? It is rumored that Ezio will be a playable character in Soulcalibur V. It's doubtful that you will be able to jump down from a rooftop and instantly assassinate your opponent, however Ezio is a master of many weapons and would make a great addition to the weapon based fighting in Soulcalibur.

What's a developer to do when their third installment of their popular series, Resistance sells rather poorly in the United States? Go on the defensive of course.

Insomniac Game's Resistance 3 was not as huge of a hit as they might have hoped here in the United States. The followup to 2008's hit Resistance 2, only managed to sell a meger 180,00 copies during it's first month release compared to Resistance 2 which sold 385,000.

GamersMint who posted an article detailing their let down first month sales, compared Resistance 3's sales to Dead Island's first month sales which released on the same day. Dead Island happened to move over 2 million copies. So what did Insomniac have to say about Resistance 3's low sales.

"Comparing Resistance 3′s sell-through number on one platform to Dead Island’s copies shipped number on 3 platforms isn’t really an Apples to Apples comparison." stated CM James Steveson.

Okay I can see that. Let's compare Playstation's exclusive Resistance 3 to another popular shooter that just so happens to be an exclusive to the Xbox 360, Gears of War 3. Gears of War 3 moved 3 million copies. 'Nuff said, right? Nope, not according to Insomniac. Insomniac later responded to a twitter post by a fan who said they were sorry to hear of the sales numbers by saying "What bad news?" and followed another question up with "oh, no, the numbers are accurate, but that was still good enough for #7 on the US charts".

Here's to hoping that Insomniac will have some better luck with Ratchet and Clank which is releasing this week and maybe learn some better marketing techniques to boost those sales of a supposed AAA shooter.

http://youtu.be/bFWKWICUOXU
via Gamersmint

Bethesda's games are very well known for the sheer amount of in-game content included in their titles. The studio has made some of the biggest and most detailed maps in games today, maps that provide hundreds of hours of possible quests. And that's just for one playthrough. I personally have sunk in over two hundred hours into both The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3. But what if I were to tell you that the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls sequel, Skryim, could be completed in 2 hours and 16 minutes?

In an internal competition, the developers raced through the game to see how fast they could complete it. The top two scores were clocked in at 2 hours, 36 minutes, and 2 hours, 16 minutes. The former time is held by a rep from the development team, Jeff Browne, while the latter is held by a representative from Bethesda QA, Sam Bernstein.

However, don't start thinking that Skyrim is actually that short. To begin with, those times are an hour longer than previous record speed runs in Oblivion and Fallout 3 (which was completed in a mere 75 minutes). Also of note is that both record holders are people who know the intricacies of the game mechanics (they'd better since they've been working on it for years), and both took two totally different methods to complete Skyrim, which is a testament to how unique the game's playthroughs will be for each player.

So rest assured, Skyrim will take you at least twice as long to complete than Fallout 3 if you take your time and explore. If you've been living under a rock and don't know why people are excited for the next installment to the Elder Scrolls series, you can head over to the game's main website to find out more about the epic title, slated for release on November 11.

via Eurogamer and Gamespot
