In the upcoming Battlefield 3, there will be nine multiplayer maps. These maps are the ones 'that combined bring out everything we want both veteran and new Battlefield players to experience in Battlefield 3 multiplayer' says DICE's David McDonagh. So here is the list and names of the maps you can expect to run, duck, and drive in on Oct. 25th.

Caspian Border

This map is one of the few that is 'lush and green' and is supposed to be an obvious choice for players who want to play with vehicles. This is a large map where base distances are usually too long to cover just on foot, so vehicles will play a major part in this map.

Damavand Peak

This map takes place on a mountain ridge above a mining facility, and features the most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Because of the extreme change in terrain as you progress in the map, vehicles will come in handy on this map as well.

Grand Bazaar

A close quarter map where you can get up close and personal with your foes, this map is set in the urban center of Tehran.

Kharg Island

Set in the Persian sea, you will be able to use boat gameplay to help beat your foes in this map.

Noshahar Canals

This is an industrial harbor, and the canals will have a mix of infantry, land vehicle, and boat gameplay. It is a smaller map than most of the others with vehicle gameplay, so there will be some tight combat moments for sure on this map.

Operation Firestorm

This is one of the largest maps in the game, and it will offer many possibilities for infantry to hide and spot vehicles, and then take them out with an RPG or mortar strike.

Operation Metro

This is a map everyone who played the beta will be familiar with. It has constantly changing areas that keep you on your toes and is good for those that can adapt to new classes and loadouts quickly.

Seine Crossing

This map features and bank building, and has one of the largest indoor environments in the game. It will allow infantry to sneak through tight alleyways and staircases to surprise the opposing team.

Tehran Highway

This map is a nighttime map. It is balanced for infantry and vehicles, and starts in a larger, open area and ends in a much tighter urban area.

Written By: starscream

The hackers vs. Sony battle continues as Sony's SVP and Chief Information Officer Philip Reitinger made a short announcement late yesterday evening stating that hackers were once again attempting to compromise Sony's Playstation Network and Entertainment Networks. Sony has temporarily disabled some accounts that may have been affected by the attempted hack.

"We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment (“Networks”) services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database. These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources. In this case, given that the data tested against our network consisted of sign-in ID-password pairs, and that the overwhelming majority of the pairs resulted in failed matching attempts, it is likely the data came from another source and not from our Networks. We have taken steps to mitigate the activity.

Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts’ valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts. Only a small fraction of these 93,000 accounts showed additional activity prior to being locked. We are currently reviewing those accounts for unauthorized access, and will provide more updates as we have them. Please note, if you have a credit card associated with your account, your credit card number is not at risk. We will work with any users whom we confirm have had unauthorized purchases made to restore amounts in the PSN/SEN or SOE wallet.

As a preventative measure, we are requiring secure password resets for those PSN/SEN accounts that had both a sign-in ID and password match through this attempt. If you are in the small group of PSN/SEN users who may have been affected, you will receive an email from us at the address associated with your account that will prompt you to reset your password.

Similarly, the SOE accounts that were matched have been temporarily turned off. If you are among the small group of affected SOE customers, you will receive an email from us at the address associated with your account that will advise you on next steps in order to validate your account credentials and have your account turned back on.

We want to take this opportunity to remind our consumers about the increasingly common threat of fraudulent activity online, as well as the importance of having a strong password and having a username/password combination that is not associated with other online services or sites. We encourage you to choose unique, hard-to-guess passwords and always look for unusual activity in your account." ~ via Playstation Blog

Whether or not you believe that the attacks came from another source other than Sony is up to you to decide, but at least this time Sony is giving their users the heads up instead of waiting for a few weeks to pass like they did during the huge Sony hack that took the Playstation Network and accounts down for weeks.

Well, it's now near the middle of Fall, and finally Valve has released details on Portal 2's first DLC pack, titled "Peer Review". The DLC will add a new set of courses for Atlas and P-Body to complete, continuing the story of the pair of lovable robots "as you puzzle your way through a mysterious new co-op test track and once again match wits with GLaDOS." Also included are challenge courses for both the multiplayer and singleplayer components, backed up with leaderboard support. The free DLC pack will hit Steam, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on October 4th. So get those online friends of yours back into the game and tear through those courses. Or you could be antisocial and strive for gold in the singleplayer challenges. If they're anywhere as challenging as Portal's, it might take you a while. Thank goodness for YouTube guides right?

Also important to note is that the third part of the Portal 2 soundtrack is available for free download. In case you wanted to download it, or missed out on the other two parts, you can download everything here.

A bit of background about the stellar game Portal 2 as described by Gamespot.com:

"Portal 2--which has shipped 2 million units--is the continuation of the 2007 Orange Box pack-in Portal. The single-player portion of the new title continues the travails of human lab rat Chell, who in the original game used a portal gun to create interdimensional openings on ceilings, walls, and floors in an effort to escape the Aperture Science labs and thwart the diabolical artificial intelligence known as GLaDOS.

via GameSpot, 1up, and Eurogamer

The fast pace and dark tones of the song do well when used in tandem with the guns, gore, wingsticks and the Wasteland this superb trailer shows off. Also featured are rocket-launchers, some of the enemies the player will encounter in their journey (a stories-tall, giant mutant and The Authority among others), and sweeping vistas of the large gang hideouts players can discover. You can watch the TV Spot below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GooazR-tmG4

Rage is being developed by Id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. In the development for quite some time (officially announced back in 2007), the game is shaping up to be a worthy competitor to other upcoming heavyweights. The player, an Ark survivor, wakes to a world struggling to rebound from the devastation of an asteroid impact from 2023. What's left of humanity lives in wastelands, contended by bandits, settlers, and mutants, and the player must survive in order to discover their past. The player, being an Ark survivor, has a large bounty on their head, leading to run-ins with the resident bandits and the game's main antagonists, The Authority, the remains of the land's 'official' government.

The game is set to release for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on October 4.

Gamers who purchased the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution from GameStop found out the hard way that they did not receive the promised OnLive code that was suppose to be included with each new copy of the PC game. It's being reported that once customers got home, cracked open their "new" game, the code was not there, and GameSpy has uncovered an email that circulated to GameStop employees telling them to open each new copy of the PC version of Dues Ex and remove the OnLive code without telling potential buyers. Why do you ask? The following statement from GameStop public relations representative, Beth Sharum sums it up pretty well.

"Square Enix packed the competitor's coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull and discard these coupons," Beth Sharum, GameStop Public Relations Rep. in a statement to GameSpy.

For those of you that do not know, GameStop gained rival company Spawn Labs and Impulse which is a similar digital download service as OnLive this past July. Does this give GameStop the right to tamper with new games and remove competitor coupons? If you ask me, hell no and I agree with GameSpy who claims that GameStop may have set themselves up for an impending legal battle for tampering with purchases of new games without consent and knowledge of the buyer and then selling them as new.

via GameSpy
